The charity was established in 1977 under the terms of a Trust Deed with the purpose of raising and managing funds in order to provide Scholarships and Bursaries to allow young people to attend the High School of Dundee, who would otherwise be unable to do so for financial reasons.

Objectives: The capital and income of the Scholarship Fund and all accretions and accumulations thereon will be applied for the following purposes and for no other purpose whatsoever, namely:- (One) To provide Scholarships to assist boys or girls to enter the Secondary School whose parents would not otherwise have been able to afford the full tuition and other fees and related outlays and that for so long as The High School of Dundee shall remain an independent or grant-aided school or a school of a similar type thereto. The Scholarships shall be awarded on the basis of:- (a) the pupil's ability to benefit from the Course, and (b) the financial need of the household. (Two) Applicants from the Primary Department of The High School of Dundee shall be considered in exactly the same way as applicants from other Primary Schools applying for the Scholarships, and shall require to satisfy the same criteria. (Three) In the event of the failure of the purposes set out in sub-clause (One) of this clause. the Scholarship Fund shall be applied for such purposes within the Tayside Region in Scotland as the Trustees hereunder may from time to time in their absolute discretion determine provided only that such purposes shall be charitable in law.
