Some time after. the North East of Scotland Library S¢rvi¢e granted LtNK the use of spa¢e in the forni¢r ¢aretakeWs flat in the same building. The increased spa¢¢ permilted the development of proper storage and selection systems for donated books. In 1991 Gordon District Council {now Abei'deenshire Council) kindly gave us the use tsf a suite of offices in Rhyni¢, allowing further expansion to OUT service. Th¢ nayne LINK was changed to BOOKS ABROAD at this time. En 2002, courtesy of a Landfill Tax Credit Award Grant. we took ovei the factory unit {Unit l) attached to the office. This provided the opportunity to greatly enhance our output, which now run5 at soine 250,000 books per annum. In April 2011 we took over the adjoining warehouse {Unit 2) and this is now utilised for receiving and sorting book donations prior to th¢in being shelved in Unit I ready for s¢lection. Thts now giTres us 582 sqiiare meters of warehouse spate and 107 square rnet¢rs of orri¢e accommodation. Extensive refurbishment and retrofit of the building to make it fit for purpose. warm and reduc¢ overlieads. Book donations ar¢ weived from h0o]s. colleges, universitie$, libraries, book publishers, individuals and other organisations throughout Scotland and some parts of England and Wales. Small donations of a box or two ¢an be arranged to be dropped off at out Bat)ff High St bookshop as well a5 a Shop in Dingwall. Str¢nuous efforts are made to satisfy all bona fid¢ requesÉ5 received. We ensure we carry a stock in our warehouse of around 350,000 books. W¢ renewed our Stk, after the extensive refurbishmeni in the last 12 months. In recent y¢aTS. we have been cxpanding our Special Project Activities by sending quantities of books in 20ft and 40ft container5 to larger institutions and sendijig pallets of book5 to sinaller projects such AS libraries or ¢OTnmunity youth organisations, Whenever possible we utilise the PartnershipslAllian¢es we have built-up over the years to assist with the distribution process within each ¢ountry, thus minitTtiSill8 our distribution costs and ensure the books reach their final destination. The majority of our funding is provided by Trusts and Foundations with the rem&inder coming from Meinberships, Donations and, incTeasin8ly, Fundraising Evenis.We are extreinely grateful to all our sUPPOrter5.
