Harris Mutual Improvement Association (HMIA) manages and operates Tarbert Community Centre, Isle of Harris for the benefit of and on behalf of the people of Harris. It promotes the well-being of the community's residents, inclusive of all of our community groups. Tarbert Community Centre provides a warm and friendly meeting place for like-minded people to gather and promote recreational, educational, social, mental well-being, physical, religious, creative, cultural development. Tarbert Community Centre is available for short-term hire by residents, visitors, charity groups, local and corporate businesses in support of economic development. HMIA's objective is to foster a community spirit and citizenship for all our stakeholders by the achievement of all our objects, securing the facility's maintenance and management for generations to come.

Objectives: (a) To promote the well-being of the community resident in the geographical area of Harris (hereinafter called 'the area') without distinction of sex or of political, religious or other opinions, by associating the Local Authorities, Voluntary Organisations and Residents in a common effort to further health, to advance education, to provide a meeting place and facilities for physical and mental training and recreation and social, moral and intellectual development and to foster a community spirit for the achievement of these and other such objects as may be by law deemed to be charitable. (b) to secure the establishment, maintenance and management of a Community Centre (hereinafter called 'the Centre') for activities promoted by the Company in furtherance of the above objects or any of them.
