Brechin Cathedral, Church of Scotland Trustees, Annual Report Structure, Governance and Management Governtng Document The Cathedral is administrated in accordance with the terms of the Deed of Con5titutlon Iunltary Forml Recrultment and appolntment of Trustees Members of the Klrk Session are the charity trustees. The Klrk Sesslon members are the elders ofthe church and are chosen from those members of the church who are considered to have the appropriate glfts and skill. The Minister, who is a member of the Kirk Session, is elected by the congregatlon and inducted by Presbytery. Rev lan Gray was appointed by the Kirk Session as the Locum Minister and paid by the Kirk Session through the Ministrles Council and the Interlm Moderator is appointed by the Presbytery of Angus to oversee the vacancy Organlsatlonal Structure The Klrk Session is chaired by the minister and meets seven times a year. Certain responsibilities are dele8ated to the Finance Committee as appropriate. The Klrk Session is responslble for both splritual and temporal affairs within the Church. The Locum Minister can only take the Kirk Session Meeting with written permisslon from the Interlm Mlnister who approve5 the Agenda prlor to the meeting. Oblertlves and Actlvltles The Church of Scotland is frinitarian in Doctrine, Reformed in Tradition and Presbyterlan In Polity. It exists to 8lorify God and to work for the advancement of Christ's Kingdom throughout the world. A5 a National Church, it acknowledge5 a Distinctive call and duty to bring the ordinances of religion to the people in every Parish in Scotland through a Territorial Ministry. It co-operates with other churches in varlous Ecumenical bodies in Scotland and beyond. The principal calling of any Christian congregation is to witness to the gospel of Jesus Christ. In 2017 the Cathedral launched its 2020 Project with the community invited along Wlth the congregation to celebrate not only the building's 800L* anniversary in June 2020, but our three key themes of celebration, education and legacy. Owing the COVID -19 Restrictions everything ha5 been put on hold till June 2022.

Brechin Cathedral, Church of Scotland Trustees, Annual Report Achievements and Performance Klrk Sesslon The Klrk Sesslon has conlinued to meet regularly throughout the year with seven meetings. The Teams all meet regularly and report to the Kirk Sesslon and present their report through a Team member. Members of the Kirk Sessior) are Trustees of Brechin Cathedral, The Management Team meets two days prior to Kirk Session to arrange business. Management Commlttee The Management Committee. which meets on the Tuesday morning prior to the Kirk Session on Thursday evening, has a threefold remit. l. To assist the Minister in planning the Worship calendar of the congregation. 2. To as51St the Session Clerk with the congregational business. 3, To deal with any sensitive matter or matter referred to it by the Kirk Session.

It is chaired by the Moderator of the Klrk Session or Session Clerk. Generally, this has been a helpful asset to the con8re8ation's life and has helped streamllne bu5ine55. Educationlmission & Aid The Syrlan Refu8ee's collections for Edinburgh Direct Aid were held with the support of the local community which was well supported by the surroundin8 communlty. The Angel Tree at Christmas, was a local project. Pastoral Group Although small, the pastoral group has been an invaluable tool in mSnSsterlng to the elderly, housebound and sSck members. Owing to the Covid-19 Restriction's pastoral visiting In not allowed. Contact has been made by telephoning members. Hospltallty Team No events owing to COVID-19 Re5trlction Property Team The Property Team is responslble for maintenance and repair work. As far as possible the bulldSng was kept wind and watertight. Where required light bulbs were changed and heaters kept In working order. Financial restrictions limited the work of the Property Team. Several projects have not been undertaken and remain "on hold" until the financial situation improves. During the year the Friend5 of Brechin Cathedral donated funds to repair the bell tower. A 8rant was also received from The Listed Places of Worship scheme to cover the vat paid. Cathedral Gulld The Guild disbanded in March 2020 and it is understood that funds at 31 December will be remitted to the national Guild at 121 George Street, Edinburgh. Flower Fund With SundaV5 worshlp belng Ilmited due COVID-19 Restriction Flowers were not required.

The Cathedral faithfully achieves this primary aim in four key areas: worship, pastoral care. educatlon and mission. Normally worship, the main service Is weekly at the Cathedral at 10.30 am on Sundays with a short monthly service at Stracathro, our second place of worshlp. A Prayer tree In the south transept also allows for prayer requests to be made by members and vi51tors and these are then fed into our on the first & third Sunday of the month service Additional evenin8 services are held at Advent and Easter with a series of servlce5 for each of the days of Holy Week. The Elders conduct services when Locum Minister is unavailable. Flnanclal Revlew The Cathedral's prlncipal source of Income comes from offering through the Weekly Freewlll Offering Scheme and through Standing Order5. Both of these sources of funds are in the maln subjert of Glft Aid. Income fell during the financlal year, and expendlture fell as a result increased empha515 on cost control. In the year to come we as a congregation will endeavour to ralse our level of giving and further examine our level of expendlture with the aim of bringing congregatlon accounts into balance. The continuing fall in our income, this has led the Kirk Session Into discussion re8ardin8 Unlon with another local Church which has failed to materialise. Financial Ir)come has been severely restricled due to COVID-19 Restriction5 on worship, openin8 the Cathedral for visltors and fun raisin8 events. The General Fund showed a deficit at 31 December 2020 of £1412019 £431 after allocating £135012019 £2,600) to the Fabric Fund this is due to a fall in giving. The Cathedral's principal Source of income comes from offerings through the Weekly Freewill Offering Scheme and throu8h Standin8 Orders £22,623 12019 £32.917) of which £21,085 12019 £28,453) was received under the Gift Aid scheme. Gift Aid claim for the period to 31 December 2020 received during 2021 amounted to £1,46012018 £2,418). During the 2020 the Cathedral has been unable to make any payments toward5 the Mission and Aid contribution of £40,51012019 44,0811 from which the vacancy allowance of £11,196 12019 £11,196) was deducted giving a net figure due £29,314 12018 £32,885). At 31 December 2020 the accumulated amount of shortfall for Mission and Aid is £121,28412019 £91,97Ql. It should be noted that the elertricity accounts for the Cathedr31'5 building were based on estimated account5 which means that there was a considerable overpayment during the year. The overpayment for the period in question is estimated to be in the region of £3,O¢XI. Durlng the 2019 funds, amounting £6,000 were transferred from the Wm Low Pastoral Fund to the Cathedral General bank account where the funds are stlll lodged. We express our thanks to The Society of Friends of Brechin Cathedral, who are financing the repalrs to the Bell Tower, for their generous support and donations for the year and previous years. Reserves Policy At present, with our deficit for the year we are unable to put funds into our reserves.
