Constitution/Governing Document
Maxwell Memorial Hall, Terregles has been a registered charity since 1918. It is administered in accordance with the Deed of Trust, 1906, and the Management Committee Constitution which was updated in 2010.
Recruitment and Appointment of Trustees
Maxwell Memorial Hall was, in 1906, gifted in perpetuity for use as a parish hall by Mrs Lucy Lloyd as a memorial to her husband Captain Alfred Peter Constable Maxwell of Terregles. Trustees appointed in the deed of trust to hold the land or property on behalf of the trust. The Trustees are non beneficiaries of the Trust as individuals, but act in a fiduciary capacity only and are unpaid volunteers and have no personal financial interest in the Trust or the Trust Funds.
In accordance with the deed a Management Committee were appointed to manage the day to day running and maintenance of the hall on behalf of the Trustees. The Management Committee of Maxwell Memorial Hall has its own bank account to manage the running of the hall and the fundraising to achieve this. They are recruited and voted onto the Management Committee at the Annual General Meeting.
Objectives and Activities
To promote active citizenship within the parish of Terregles and surrounding areas and to provide safe and secure facilities in the interest of social welfare for recreational, leisure, social and educational activities, and such other activities that may be deemed acceptable to the committee.
To maintain and manage the hall for furtherance of the above activities.
The committee shall not be political, sectarian, or discriminatory in its practice.
The committee shall have power, with the trustees’ approval, to affiliate to other organisations with similar objectives.
Activities
Terregles Community Council meetings, Terregles SWI meetings, Badminton games being used by local families, Family functions, Weddings, Dumfries & Nithsdale Pony Club Meetings & Events, Annual Terregles Flower Show, Dumfries & Galloway Burns Association, Craft Club, Private hires. Church Xmas Mince Pies & Coffee, Church Big Breakfast, Hall Committee Fundraising Events - Christmas Coffee Morning & Annual Burns Supper.
Financial Review
Our main source of income is from the fundraising events, planned and provided by the Management Committee, along with the hall rentals to various groups and private rentals.
Reserves Pollcy Funds are held in trust by the Trustees. The Management Commrttee's remit indudes raising funds for the day to day management requirements of the hall. Any larg8 developmenv maintenance needs are subject to speciFic fundraising and grant applications. Plans for Future Period The Management Committee and Tmstees have managed to acquire grant funding over r6¢ent years to upgrade the hall to a gocwJ stsndard For the immediate future, fundraising and events are planned in line with covering the running costs of the hall, increasing community involvemerrt and ensuring adequate fvnding for any future maintenance issu8S for ttie hall.
