The trustees present their annual Teport and financial statements of the charity for the year ended 31 December 2022. The financial statements have been prepared in accordance with the accounting policies set out on pages 9 and 10 and COTnply with the General Assembly Regulations for Congregational Finance, the Charities and Ttustee Investment (Scotland) Act 2005, Ihe Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006 (as amended) and Accounting and Reporting by Charities.. Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charitics preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of treland published on 16 July 2014. Objectives and Activities The Church of Scotland is Trinitsrian in doctrine, Refomied in tradition and Presbyterian in polity. It exists to glorify God and to work for the advancement of Christ's Kingdom throughout the world. As a national Church, it acknowledges a distinctive call and duty lo bring the Ordinances of religion to the people in every parish of Scotland through a territorial ministy. It ¢o-operates with other Churches in various ecumenical bodies in Scotland and beyond. Achievements and Performydnce At Greenside, our regular services are held on Sundays at I lam. Other services have traditionally included family services, united services with local congregations and the 'AII Nations Advent Service. (attended by minority church groups of many nationalities). Throughout th¢ year, the Christian Coptic Church, Russian Orthodox Church, Asian Concern and the Swedish Church have also traditionally held services and congregational events at Greenside. Our Children's Ministry continue to hold regular services and an occasiotsal outdoor event for local children and their families using the Godly Play programme and resources. In addition to the monthly programme, this sunuller the children and their famili¢s enjoyed a summer piGnic outing. Greenside held charity fund raising events for Christian Aid. This year the other charities we regularly support have benefitted from the Church Benevolent Fund. These charities include Tearfund. Fresh Start, and Bethany Christian Tn]st as well as Poppy Scotland. Toppings Bookshop have been holding author events in OUT sanctyary but unfortw)ately the Festival Fringe Comparty were unable to participate in the limited Fringe event this year. The hall accommodation is used by some 200 young members of Girl Guiding and Scouting as well as occasional use by youth theatre and musical groups. The church webslte continues to be used by members of the congregation and the public. A weekly ord¢r of worship and notices are available for weekly services and a monthly newsletter was Produced and widely distributed.

Achievements and Performance (continued) Pastoral Cate continues to be a fundamental featUTe of the life of the congregation and is undertaken by oui locujn minib1. R¢v Susan Siark, together with our pastoral care team and members of the congregatÈon. The significant number of elderly membm of thc congregalion mcan that pastoral care has become extremely itDportant to these members and friends of the congregation. While regularvisiting had to stop due to the pandemi¢ a 'Phone a Friend, sys*m was put in place. Members were linked with ¢ach other and they agrccd a Toutinc pattern of regular calls. Ivhile visits are now possible the Phone a Fri¢nd Lontinues. Cards marking birthday and special events were sejjt as are regular notL% to those memttrs in Care Homes. Easter and Christmas cards were sent to every family in the congregation and the monthly newsletter has continued to be produced and issued cl¢¢tronically and in hard Copy. Flowers and plants have been delivered to the aged and niost vulnerdble members. Greenside LUlTrtin Rev'd to be key to the innovative Arts Outreach proj¢ct. The project leader, xtended his chaplaincy work and is now chaplain to all thre¢ major city centre thcatrcs as well as the Playhouse and the On1 Centre. In addition to hts cbaplaincy work whiLh involves welcoming and supporting theatre staff and perfornlers, he has been offering fElm and discussion evenÉngs for local churches and has been working with the refug¢¢ community. In addition he was a key member of the organi5ing team of a major show case event at the time of this year's General Assembly and in addition orga &$ Carol event in the Ross Bandstsnd in West Princes Street Gardens. The Rev'd ctired on 31 st December 2022 and was warnily thanked for his work, leadership and for the support he has gtven to Grecnsidc Parish ChurGh. Financfial Review Out members, regLdar offerings and freewill offerings, including the gift aid reclaimed, remaiTh a steady source of income. We are now able to resume letting our halls and the revenue from this source has been a great benefit. The ntaI income we receive for having a tel¢phone mast in our tower give a further much needed source of incom¢ along with the investment income wc receiv¢ from our invcsknnents. We are fortunate to have had large financial rescrves as our costs hav¢ been tnuch greater than our income over the past number of years. InvtMent Polfiry and Performance Our investment managers, Quilter ChevioL have continued to achieve reasonablc rem5 in a difficult market. They are instructed to invest ethically to provide growth and income at a medium risk. W¢ experienced a loss on revaIuation as at 31 December 2022 which is in line with gcneral market perfonnance.

Rlsk Management The Kirk Session's gen¢ral monitoring and review of the activities of the church is such that we k¢¢p under review ihe major risks facing the church. The Trnstees have considered the major risks to which the charity is exposed and are satisfied that appropriate systems at)d procedures are in place to mitigate those risks. Reserves Policy It is the Trustees, policy to hold reserves of not Icss than one year's expenditure. At the year end the Church h¢ld unr&stricted fimds of £482.858 (2021: £625.796) of which £482,858 {2021.. £625,771) has been designated for the purposes of Greenside Church ol Scotland, as such puryoses may be detern)ined from time to time by the tnembers of the Kirk Session and £nil (2021: £25) for the Choir Fund. Although the balance on the general fund at the end of the year is £nil (2021: £nil) the amount designated for the purposes of Greenside Church of £482,858 (2021.. £625,771), above, represents several years. expenditure. With the proposed uniting with Broughton St Mary's we have taken the deciston to ¢lose the Flow¢r and Choir Fund as well as our B¢n¢volent Fund. The Church also formerly held restricted and endowment fiinds. These have now been llY utilised or, in the case of thc endowment funds. with OSCR approval, hav¢ bccn transfetted to general funds in the year. There are no restricted or endowment funds held at the end of the year. Structhrey Governance and Management The congregation is a registered charity. number SC009749 and is administered in accordance wilh lh¢ terms of the Model Deed of Constitution. It Is subject to the Acts and Regulations of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland. Since 1st January 2018 Greensid¢ has operdted under the ternis of the unitary ci)nstitytion. Certain operational responsibilities are delegated to four commÉttees. These are Fabric, Finance, Pastoral Cale and Outreach. The Kirk Session members are the elder5 of the church and are chosen from members of the congregat20n who are Lonbidered to have appropriate gifts tmd skills. Three elders have resigned from the Kirk Session due to transferring to other churches. These three eldeis have ceased to be trustees. Gr¢enside Parish Church is currcntly in Guardianship at]d during this period of vacancy, an Ittterim Moderator is appointed by the Presbytery and takes the place of the Minister. The Rev came the Interim Moderator in September 2019 and also our Locutn MinAslei since January 2022. The Guarthanship is currently exfrnded until 30 June 2023.

Discussions are expected to begin in January 2023 with Broughton St Mary's Parish Church which would lead to a union of the twv churches during 2023.
