ObJeclfve8 and acUvlll¢s The Church of Scotland Is TrInStar1t In doctrfne, Refomied in tradition and Presbyterian in governmenl. It exlsts to glorffy God and to work for the advancement of Chilst's Kingdom throughout the ¥vorld. As a national church, it ackn¢)wledges a distlnctive call and duty lo bring the ordinances of ligIOn to the people in every parlsh of Scotland through a lerrltorlal mlnlsty. It co-operates vAth other churches In varlous ecumenical bodles in Scotland and beyond. Th8 regular weekty actlvities at St Calherine's Argyle rary from Sunday worship to the provi8lon of meetlng spaces for communty groups. Pregbytery Ml8slon Plan The General Assembly requlred all Presb>tsrles to agree new ten-year plans by the erKI of 2022 fortha deployment of mlnisters and th8 use of bulldlngs. Faced wlth a substantial reduction in Its number of minlsters, the proposal of the Presbytery of Edlnljuth and Wast Lothlan was to reduce the number of Jurches by forrning groups that would work loward8 union. Tha Plan that was approved by Presbytery asked St Catherlne's Arge to work with Marchmont St Glles. and Momingside United (a Local Ecumenical Pathershlp with the United RefomHI Church) Sn a 'trl-lateral union,. The Plan also notes that our bulldlng is close to thal of Marchmont St Gles, and glves tt a .8, desnatIOn, meaning that It should be consldered for disposal when shared nwion priorfties and need$ are agreed. The Pr8sbytery has embarked upon a ievl8w of its engagement with Local E¢umeni¢al Partnerships. Thls has prevented the trklateial unlon. 80 wlth Prnsbytery apwoval we focused on ¢reatln9 a naw hurch with Marchmont St Glles, lo seNe ow comblned parishes. There were congregational votes on a basis of union in June but the r8suIi was only parttal approval for the proposal and discussions ¢ontlnue. The Presbytery Deployment Commlttee has been clear that the optlons to bg considered now ara either a unlon Iwlth Marchmort St Glles, and potentlally Reid Memorlal) or dissolution. Wa we gratafvl to our Interim moderators, Adrian Lough arKI then Derek Browning, for their support and guld*)ce In th58 proce88. Achlevements and performan¢e Ono again the year was over8hadowed by the Presbytery Plan. There continues to be apprehensi about what it may mean for our congregab'on and there have been many meetings to ¢on$ider altemative ways to proceed. A consequence of all this work has been that Ilmlted energy has been left for new Initlatlve$. Nevertheless, 'Engllsh Comef Conversation meetings were stsrted agaln and they have attracted a good number of overseas students, particularly from Chlna. Thi8 is seen as a first step towards a wlder student mini8try. Ihh8n we conslder what we have to brfng to the proposed new church, our conclusion Is that the essenllal thlng Is the Intergeneratlonal natu of congregatlon. So, have contlnued to work at belng a muiualty 8UPPOrt6ve church famlly ofyoung arKI old.
