The primary purpose of the charity is to run an international piano competition, usually every 3 or 4 years. SIPC also works with the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland to organise an youth competition.

Objectives: The objects for which the Company is established are to continue, develop, promote and improve the Scottish International Piano Competition as the same was established originally for the first Scottish Piano Competition in September 1986 and which was renamed the Scottish International Piano Competition for the second such competition which took place in January 1990, and further to promote, improve, develop and maintain public education in and appreciation of the art and science of music in all its aspects by the presentation of public concerts and recitals and by such other ways as the Company shall determine from time to time.
