3. The primary objectives of the Trust are to promote and support the health, education and recreation of members of the public by encouraging their safe participation in mountain activities in Scotland and elsewhere. The Trust does this by making grants and loans to individuals, clubs and charitable bodies who are seeking funding to assist in projects which further the primary objectives of the Trust. The Trustees meet twice a year (April and October) to consider applications for funding. In addition the Trust owns all the share capital in Scottish Mountaineering Trust (Publications) Limited, a company which via the Scottish Mountaineering Press publishes guides to Scottish mountains and crags and other mountaineering books. The profits of the Publications company are paid to the Trust each year under the Gift Aid scheme.

Objectives: The primary objectives of the Trust are to promote and support the health, education and recreation of members of the public by encouraging their safe participation in mountain activities in Scotland and elsewhere. Mountain activities are principally hillwalking, rock climbing, winter mountaineering and ski touring. The Trust will achieve these objectives by: (i) promoting knowledge and appreciation of: (a) mountain geography, topography, meteorology, ecology and geology, (b) the skills to engage safely in mountain activities, (c) the history, culture and images of mountain activities, (ii) providing information, opportunities, access facilities and equipment for the public to enjoy mountain activities, (iii) providing facilities, training and equipment for mountain rescue teams or organisations. In all these activities the Trust will seek to ensure the conservation of the environment.
