Objectives and A¢tivlties
The Church of Scotland is Trinitsrian in doctrine, Reformed in traditlon and Presbyterian in
polity. It exfsts to glorrfy God, and to work for the advancement of Christ's kingdom
throughout the world. As a National Church it acknowled8e5 a distinctive call and duty to
bring the ordinan￿5 of rellglon to the people of every Parish of Scotland through a
territorial ministry. It operates with other churches in various Ecumenical bodies in Scotland
and beyond.
As a rural parlsh, Kilmaur5: St Maurfs-Glencaim thrives to be at the centre of Cornmunlty
Life, with services at I1.[￿)aM in Church on Sunday mornin8s. Family servlces are held
regularly throu8houtthe year, when the emphasls is aimed at the younger members of the
famlly circle. and normalfy in a550¢iation with Messy Church. Communion Ser¥lces are held
three times a year. on the first Sunday of March. June and October. Communion is 3150
celebrated during the mornlng service on the last Sunday of the year. Throughout the year,

Scottish Bible Society. The Messy Church team organised an Easter Egg rolling event priorto
the moming service on Easter Sunday. The Harvest Thanksgiving team decorated the Churth
for the morning servlce. Thi5 is much appreciated by the con8regation, and highlights the
wonderful work of a Farmlng and Agricultvral Communlty, deep in the heart of Ayrshire. The
Harvest 8ifts in 2024 were sp15t between Eatt Ayrshire Foodbank. and filmaurs Primary
School's Community Food Larder. The Brownies. Guides and Scout Group a8aln presented
their colours during the Remembrance Day moinlng service. and the Community was well
represented at the wreath laying service at the War Memorial in Morton Park after the

Action Group also supply the Advent Crown, which is lit during the four Sundays of Advent,

durlng the year, and Elders were assigned to a di5trFCt in the latter part of the year.
Malntenance of Property is a blg issue. During the year. extensive work was carried out to
the Manse doors and roof, rou8hcast, In5ulationlrender repair5 and to the slab5 around the
Manse. These were all carrfed out In the Sprlng/Summer of the year. Some remedial
pointing repairs was also completed at the Church. All in all, the Property is in 8ood repair

throughout. and much appretiatioft is extended to the Property team for their dili£ence and
concern.
One of the big Issues in all organisations such as ours is Safeguardlng. We are very ft)rtunate
to have
5 our Safeguarding C&ordinator. Since her appointrnent was
confirmed, the majority of Trustees have completed their basic training renewal, and the
Safeguarding Register has been completely updated to detsil all chan8e5. We await guidance
from the Safeguarding Service r&the implications resulting from the Disclosure Scotland Att
2020. which may result in rnore advanced trainin8 of all Trustees, and PVG certificate
holders, of which we will be notified In due course. We thank
for her sterlin£ work
Since becoming Safe8uarding co￿rdInator. and lo0kfor￿rd to working with her in thls
most important role.
Church organisations continue to flourish. The Guild meets In the Communlty Centre and is
dedicated to support themes, topics and strategies, set out at National level whlch for 2024-
25 is'sure Foundations,. The Gulld is open forwomen and men, and speakers are always
open and entertalnln8.
The Flower Committee, which ensuresthere is afloral exhibit in Churth everysunday
momin& and for special services, which is then dlstributed, on a rota basis to members of
the congregaiion or communrty after the mornin8 Service.
The number5 in the Choir has a8ain rlsen duringthe year. We are pleased to see our Organist
has recovered from hi5 Injuries. and is once again back In place. The choice of
Introit and incidental music, is also to be commended. Could we atthis time thank our
Mlnister for deputi5ing for
uring his recovery.
The Action Group continues to host the monthly cuppa., 3fter the mornin8 service. We are
also pleased to report on the Group's revival of the Annual Trip in August. and the Sponsored
Walk in September. The Annual Blytheswood Shoebox Appeal was again organised.
Messy Church meets monthly In the Community Centre. Thernes are Bibllcal based, and
activities include art, crafts and stories. These are fun activitie5 for parents, friends and
chlldren to do together. and there is 31way5 a time for Worship. before everyone shares food.
Messy Church also organised the spontaneou5 Nativity Play. which for 2024 was outstar)ding.
In Kllmaurs: St Maur's- Glencairn, 2024 has undoubtedly been the year o
joined us in lirstly in 2020, during the Covid pandemlc. He lolned u5 again for his
Probationer Training. In the Church of Scotland Probationers a￿ tandidates for the Minlsiry,
who, after completing their 5tudles. undertake a fifteen month placement in a Parish.
supervised by a tralned Minister. before seeking a first charge. This placement is set to
provide practical experientt and preparation for life in a Parish, with the object of preparing
thern for Mlnistry. Throughout this tralnin& candidates attend Review meetings set to
document trainins achleved, with the identificotion of areas for further development.

Interim and final Probationer appraisa￿ are then conducted, and must be completed before
they can seek a permanent appointment and Ordination.
David immersed himself lulty In our Church community. During Sunday services, he flrstly
read the lessons, progressing to leading Prayers. and Preachin8 the Sermon, finally
conducting full services. He dedicated his life to the life of our Parish, which was much
appreciated by all who came into contact with him in this capacity. He attended the sick and
housebound, he visited Nursing homes, h05Pitals and hospices. Hi5 progress was reported at
Kirk Session meeting5, where he would furnish the Session with first hand accounts of his
work. He spoke at the Guild, he worked diligently with the Messy Church Team, and assisted
setting out the program forthe year. he attended Action Group meetings and joined in the
Sponsored Walk. and conducted the evening service in Largs during the Annu31 Trip to
Cardwell and Larg5. He vrsited the school and assemblies. He spoke about his pilgrimage to
lona, and how this would affect his ministry. He introduced the congre8ation to various
'unknown' Saints Days, and world wide'festivities,. During hi5 time with us, he was able to
achieve a long-held ambition of working in chaplaincy with NHS Fife. which he found
challengin& but. so very worthwhile. and spoke about the 'powerof Prayer, in real life
situations.
He carried out hi5 work in our Parish to great effect. Thls was evident on hls last Sundaywith
us when he wa5 presented with a very 8enerous gift from our congre8ation. and our best
wishes for future success.
Again we face challenges, again we are focussed on the challenges. The Kirk Session, through
its Convenors and Committees, will continue to work for the benefit of the congregation.
Thp rongre8ation is ever thankful for the devotion. dedication and commitment o
and pray for their continual leadershSp. friendship. support and 8uidance, which lias
been a great comfort, and we hope and prayfor manymore years to come.
