Structure Governance and Management
Ardgay Public Hall, also known as Ardgay Community Centre, is a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation and the purposes and administration arrangements are set out in our constitution. All of Ardgay Public Hall’s trustees are appointed or reappointed by the members at our annual general meeting, which we aim to hold in October each year.
Objectives and Activities
The advancement of education, the provision of recreational facilities, or the organisation of recreational activities, with the object of improving the conditions of life for the persons for whom the facilities or activities are primarily intended
The SCIO will promote, advance and further charitable purposes and in that regard the assets of the SCIO have been dedicated and shall continue to be held for the purposes of physical and mental training and recreation, and social, moral and intellectual development through the medium of education and recreation facilities, lectures, classes, recreation or otherwise as may be found expedient of the inhabitants of said Parish of Kincardine and Croick, without distinction of or of political, religious or other opinions subject to the provisions of these presents.
Summary of Activities
Hall Administration
Upgrading & maintenance:
We engaged a new committee member, Stuart Allison in March 2025 to enable improved delivery of various aspects of our maintenance plan. A number of minor repairs have been implemented and further are in planning. However, with the recent (2[nd] September) £85k grant, our major project to repair the roof, guttering, fascias and replace doors will be able to go ahead in the coming months. We offer our grateful thanks to Highland Council, Sutherland, Community Regeneration fund for this grant.
Thank you also to the previous Ardgay & District Community Council who provided grants from Beinn Tharsuinn Fund for our new committee room heating and also as match funding for the above major upgrade project.
Electricity: we remain in our contract with Corona and invoicing and billing continue to be problematic, but is closely monitored by our committee. Thank you to David Knight for his significant help here.
Broadband: thanks are due again to Highland Broadband (Lothian Broadband) for providing free super-fast fibre system in the Hall continuing to save us around £40 per month. This also allows us to offer free broadband use when needed for community resilience.

Non-Event Fundraising: i n August 2024, we created accounts with easyfundraising and The Highland Community Lottery . Although a relatively small amount of money has been raised thus far, we will continue to promote this in the coming year.
Hall Events:
Our markets continue to provide a fun set of events for our community, and supply a good funding stream. We intend, however to review the format and regularity of the markets. These run in conjunction with Repair Cafes and Garden Swap events and it would be beneficial to review how these run and when.
Our Kyle of Sutherland Gala Week Book Fair is now an established and popular event. Thanks to for organising this. It’s expected that our Art & Photography Fair will be biennial, but we would expect now to work with the reformed Kyle of Sutherland Heritage Group on this.
Special thanks are due to our volunteer team for their dedication in supporting the admin and running of the markets and other events. Thank you.
User Groups and Other Bookings: it is wonderful to see the regular bookings grow, with various new groups forming such as music and photography, and also being part of the community fitness program from the KoSDT.
We are delighted that both our new and longstanding groups are thriving, and welcome the newest Knit, Natter and More group. It was also exciting to host the Coast to Coast walk for The Long Distance Walkers Group and we’d hope to attract further similar events. And of course, we were happy that we could provide a temporary peaceful location for a local congregation to worship.
The Hall continues to be considered a Key Safe Location in the Kyle of Sutherland Resilience Plan and is used by the Ardgay Community Council.
We’re looking forward to working together with other local halls and buildings for various projects, including to further develop the resilience action plan.
Finally, in this section it is also worth commenting that all the above activities have significantly increased the profile of Ardgay Public Hall, thus attracting bookings from a broader community.
We would like to thank all our community, the various group organisers, our committed volunteers, the help provided by our local businesses, associated local groups, and the committee for their hard work, which continues to improve this wonderfully welcoming and enjoyable community resource.
Hall promotions

used to help identify booking possibilities.
Social Media: our main Ardgay Hall Page and Facebook groups are well supported: Ardgay Community Market and Kyle of Sutherland Books & Arts.
Notice Boards: Hall events are advertised on our own internal and external notice boards, the Ardgay Community notice board and various local shops.
Kyle Chronicle: articles are published each quarter, providing the community with a summary of Hall information and promoting the Hall in general.
Financial Summary
-
Grants: We received a matched funding grant of £2000 for our major building project from Beinn Thairsuinn Community Fund. We also received £1800 from the same source for new committee room heating and our last tranche of the 5 year grant allocation from Coirre na Cloiche Community Fund. Thank you Ardgay & District Community Council and the two wind farms funds.
-
Electricity: We continue to struggle with the accuracy of Corona Billing, but our bills remain similar to last year at around £6k.
-
Hall Use: Our fund raising events (markets etc) increased income by about £1k and our Hall rental income remained similar.
-
Forecast: We are hoping that the Coirre na Cloiche fund will be renewed and are reviewing the best strategy for our fund raising plans.
Funding Sources & Thanks
There have been much-appreciated donations from local individuals which have helped fund new furniture, equipment and competition/raffle prizes.
Again, thank you to Highland / Lothian Broadband for installing our new broadband system at no cost to the Hall.
Vote of Thanks. Grateful thanks are due to
-
Our dedicated team of regular and ad hoc volunteers.
-
Our committee and sub-committees.
-
Voluntary Groups Sutherland for their ongoing support and accounts creation.
-
The Kyle of Sutherland Development Trust for their increasing use of our Hall.
-
The local businesses, market vendors and volunteers who have supported the Hall in various ways.
-
A special thank you to Fiona Venters for keeping the Hall clean and tidy, managing all the bookings and especially for being on hand when emergencies arise.
-
And of course, our whole community. The committee are hugely grateful to everyone for their general support of the Hall.
Whist not actually in this year’s annual figures, special thanks are due to the Highland

Council Community Regeneration Fund (Sutherland) for our grant of £85,000 to replace part of the roof, fascias, gutters, down pipes and doors.
Outlook for 2025 2026
In the coming months, the Hall will benefit from our Ardgay Hall 2026 project to upgrade the roof areas and the doors. We also hope to increase safety aspects around the front door and around the drains and fill the wall cracks.
As noted above, we will be reviewing the strategy for markets, garden and repair events for next year along with other fund raising options.
And, we are hoping that with the reformation of the Ardgay & District Community Council that the CnC regular funds will me again made available.

- The charity's Trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the terms of the Charities and trustee Investment (Scotland) 2005 Act and the Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006. Basis of independent examiner's statement
My examination is carried out in accordance with Regulation 11 of the Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts and seeks explanation from the Trustees concerning such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit and, consequently, I do not express an audit opinion on the accounts.
Independent examiner's statement
In the course of my examination, no matter has come to my attention
-
1 which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in any material respect the requirements :-
