Governing Document
The Trust originates from a Deed of Trust dated 25 February 1960 and subsequent Deeds of Assumption.
On 1 August 2022, following approval by OSCR, the Trustees signed a Supplemental Deed of Trust amending the name of the charity to 'Sir Archibald Lyle Memorial Trust' and amending the trust provisions.
Charitable Purpose
Under the Supplemental Deed of Trust, the purposes of the charity were extended to provide assistance to residents in and around or linked to Glendelvine, Riemore and Butterstone by providing accommodation at affordable rent.
Recruitment and appointment of Trustees
The Trustees are appointed by existing Trustees.
Activities and achievements
The Trust owns three cottages. Two are rented at modest rents which produce funds from which the properties can be maintained. The other property is provided rent-free to a local resident in terms of the Trust Deed.
Trustees remuneration and expenses
The Trustees did not receive any remuneration or expenses during the year and there are no paid employees.
Financial Review, Investments and Reserves
The results are as shown in the attached Receipts and Payments Account for the year to 30 June 2025. There was a surplus of £3,799.97 for the year (2024- surplus of £693.92). The total funds of the Trust are held as unrestricted as at 30 June 2025.

I report on the accounts of the Trust for the year ended 30 June 2025 which are set out on pages 4 to 6.
Respective responsibilities of the Trustees and Examiner
The Trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the terms of the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) Act 2005 and the Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006 (as amended). The Trustees consider that the audit requirement of Regulation 10(1) (d) of the Accounts Regulations does not apply. It is my responsibility to examine the accounts as required under section 44(1) (c) of the Act and to state whether particular matters have come to my attention.
Basis of Independent Examiner’s Statement
My examination is carried out in accordance with Regulation 11 of the 2006 Accounts Regulations. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeks explanations from the Trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently I do not express an opinion on the view given by the accounts.
Independent Examiner’s Statement
In the course of my examination, no matter has come to my attention:

Notes to the Accounts for the year to 30 June 2025.
1. Accounting Policies
Accounting convention
The principal accounting policies which have been applied consistently in the current and preceding year in dealing with items which are material to the accounts are set out below.
The accounts have been prepared on the receipts and payments basis in accordance with the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) Act 2005 and the Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006 (as amended).
Fixed assets
The charity owns three cottages in Caputh, PH1 4JN. These were valued by Savills in 2014. The Trustees estimate their current value to be £215,000.
Taxation
The trust is a registered charity and accordingly is exempt from taxation on its income and capital gains where they are applied for charitable purposes. The charity is not registered for VAT and resources expended therefore include irrecoverable VAT.
Funds
Unrestricted funds are incoming resources receivable or generated for the objects of the Trust without further specific purpose and are available as general funds.
Designated funds are unrestricted funds earmarked by the Trustees for a particular purpose.
Building fund — this fund has been created by the Trustees as a result of the incorporation of the Memorial cottages at Glendelvine into the accounts for the year to 30 June 2013 at an estimated valuation of £ 215,000.
2. Charitable Donations
One of the cottages is occupied rent-free.
3. Trustee Responsibilities
In preparing these accounts the Trustees are of the opinion that the charity is entitled to the exemption from audit conferred by Regulation 10(1)(d) of the Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006.
The Trustees acknowledge their responsibilities for ensuring that the charity keeps accounting records and prepares financial statements in accordance with the requirements of the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) Act 2005 and the Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006 (as amended).
