The overriding principle of the charity's existence is to raise funds from its various fundraising activities which should be donated to projects/organisations which work to provide benefits in the broad areas which Rotary strives to support. This applies to donations given for local, national and international purposes. Rotary Foundation, which is Rotary's own charity, has identified seven areas of focus which are, Peace Building and Conflict Resolution, Disease Prevention and Treatment, Water Sanitation and Hygiene, Maternal and Childcare, Basic Education and Literacy, Community Economic Development and Protecting our Environment.

Objectives: The object of the Benevolent Fund shall be to apply the income thereof for the benefit of the poor and needy living within the territorial area of the Club as defined and delineated on the plan thereof at Rotary Headquarters in London or to or for the benefit of such charitable institutions, societies and objects as the Club shall in duly constituted meeting from time to time direct.
