Chairman’s Report 2024/20 25
I would like to say a huge thanks to everyone who has taken the time to come along today to our AGM.
Once again it has been a very busy and successful year for the Village Hall with our regular programme of events and a spectacular record-breaking Fete, all made possible with the support of not only our fantastic committee members but, also, our wonderful community.
I will very briefly run an outline of our activities since last April.
-
May saw the Celebratory event for 15 years of our Heritage Centre. With a tasty array of food and drink, all were invited to come and view the Centre as it reopened for the season as well as admire the new murals on the outer walls. We were treated to the Pipes played by . Huge thanks to for all her incredible work and to HLF for the funding.
-
We are lucky enough to have a fantastic sub-committee who curate and manage the Film Screening programme. This group has gone from strength to strength over the last few years and they have successfully built a huge audience for the screenings, attracting folk from Dunoon, Bute, Tighnabruaich and Strachur. Not only does this raise much needed revenue for the Hall but it also helps to cement the Hall as a hub for our community and beyond. Between April 24 and March of this year there have been 9 screenings. Huge thanks to everyone who sits on this committee.
-
We have continued to hold Community Garden Work Parties and I am pleased to say that we received funding from ACHA in March of this year to go towards renewing the children’s area of the Garden. We have also been awarded funding from Cruach Mhor Windfarm Trust for some much-needed deeper maintenance work to be carried out in the Garden, such as cutting back, pruning, as well as clearing the waterway down to the pond. Over the last year we have also replaced benches with heavier duty, recycled plastic benches. Many thanks to for overseeing all this work and to our community for their ongoing support.
-
From September 24 to March 25, we ran a series of events such as Tea, Coffee and homebaking, Soup and Bacon Rolls and a quiz. We also ran a Gardener’s Question Time in March. This was the brain child of committee member and we have been wanting to do this for some time. It was a big success and potentially something that could become an annual event. These events are never run as fund-raisers, rather the focus is on providing an opportunity for our community to come together and socialize. Thankfully, due to donations on the door, we can both cover our costs as well as raise a small amount of income.
-
Our Christmas Fair in November was a huge success with the proceeds being split equally between the Hall and CHAS. When planning this event, we prioritize local producers and we are lucky enough to have some wonderful
makers in our area. It is always a jolly way to start the Festive season with mince pies, mulled cider, and good cheer.
-
Thankfully our Christmas Committee Fairy donned her tutu again this year and organized our annual ColGlen Christmas Dinner. With beautiful decorations, thousands of Christmas lights, huge Christmas trees, games and activities, hampers and, of course, wonderful food, it really was a fantastic night. I am sure we can all agree! Huge thanks to our Christmas Fairy and her team of happy and willing helpers. We would also like to thank the Cruach Mhor Windfarm Trust and the Community Council.
-
The 2024 Fete was an absolute record-breaker and this is entirely down to the huge levels of support we have from the entire community and further beyond. There are simply too many folks to thank! We were lucky enough to be blessed with fine weather and, thanks to all the hard work, we took in around £8,000. This is our main fundraiser of the year and thankfully our bank balance is now looking healthier.
The Colintraive Village Hall is hugely important to our community, providing a central, safe hub for folk to come together. We are lucky to have such huge support from our community. I am proud of both our hall and our community. In January of this year Storm Eowyn hit. Thanks to our amazing community pulling together we were able to open the hall and provide power, food and company at what was a very challenging time. As a committee we have agreed, that moving forwards, we will continue to use the hall in this way should the need arise and we are in the process of investigating the purchase of a larger generator.
Once again, a huge thanks to those of you who have come along today. Huge thanks to everyone on the committee for all their hard work, energy and enthusiasm. A huge thanks to everyone who supports the Hall.
