Activities

'It carries out activities or services itself'

'the advancement of citizenship or community development','the advancement of the arts, heritage, culture or science','the provision of recreational facilities, or the organisation of recreational activities, with the object of improving the conditions of life for the persons for whom the facilities or activities are primarily intended','any other purpose that may reasonably be regarded as analogous to any of the preceding purposes'

The Trustees aim to maintain and develop Stobo Village Hall as a vibrant and financially sustainable community resource for the inhabitants of Stobo and its surrounding area. To this end, we have a programme of gradual improvement in the fabric of the building and its facilities. In 2018, for example, we raised £56k in grant funding for a comprehensive remodelling of our kitchen and toilets and can now offer catering for 60+ people at a time. We organise fundraising events, including a very successful Burns' supper and a Winter Series of Talks @ Stobo. We host a monthly Community Coffee Morning that has raised £1000 for charity and a very successful series of 'Stobo Sessions', an initiative for young musicians wanting to get experience in performing in public. The Hall is also used by local groups and private individuals for training courses, parties and cycle meets and public consultations on local forestry developments.

Objectives: The said subjects and the building erected or to be erected thereon (hereinafter referred to as 'the Trust subjects') are dedicated and shall be held by us and our successors as Trustees in all time coming for the purposes of a Community Hall for the use of the inhabitants of the village and District of Stobo without distinction of political, religious or other opinions, including use for meetings, lectures and classes, with the object of improving the conditions of life for the said inhabitants.
