We are an educational charity promoting the languages and literature of Scotland. We publish classic works of Scottish literature which merit a fresh presentation to a modern audience. essays, monographs and journals on the literature and languages of Scotland. and Scotnotes, a series of study guides to major Scottish writers. We also produce an annual anthology of contemporary writing in English, Gaelic and Scots. Membership is open to all who support our aims, and members receive a range of books and periodicals in return for their subscription. Our publications are also available through the book trade, and a number of publications and educational resources are available for free download from our website. Our Conferences address different aspects of Scottish literature and language, their roles in education and daily life. Through our Conferences and our publications, ASL has made a significant contribution to the development and study of Scotland’s literary culture.

Objectives: (a) To promote the study teaching and writing of Scottish Literature (b) To promote the study and teaching of the language of Scotland (c) To collect and disseminate information concerning these studies in Scotland and throughout the world (d) To stimulate and co-ordinate the publication and editing of works of Scottish Literature (e) Itself to publish at suitable intervals, edited texts, reprints, and such studies and periodicals as may be from time to time determined.
