Structsre, Governance and Management
Governillg Document
The Church is administered Én accordance with the ternis of the Church of Scotland Unitary Fonn
Deed of Constitution.
Recruitment and AppoÉntment of Trustees
The Kirk Session comprises those members of the church who ar¢ considered by the Kirk Session
to have the appropriate gifts and skills. undertake a course of instruction and are ordaTned to th¢
position of Elder. The minister, who is a memlKr of the Kirk- Session, is elected by the congregation
and inducted by Pr¢sbytery. In 2024, the Congregational Board comprised 19 elders and 18 elccted
members. The elected Board rnembers are appointed from the Church Roll after Enembers of the
congregation are invited to nominate individuals who are believed to have the skills aml
mmilm¢nt to contribute to the manaoetnent atTairs of the Church as mcmbers of the Board. Board
Members served until the chuT¢h adopted the Unttary Deed of Consiitution on 13 March 2024.
Organisational Structhre
On 13 March 2024 the church adopted a Unitary Deed of constitutio￿ replacing the Model
constituti(￿. The new constitution does not include a Congregational Board. The Kirk Session
adopted new ways of working to ensure that meetings were conducted efficiently and that matters
were considered timeously according to the needs of the church. To that end a Business Committce
was established to support agenda planning.- receipt of reports and correspondence and to monitor
outcomes and delivery timelines.
Objectives 2nd Activities
The Church of Scotland is Trinitarian in doctrine. Refornied in tradition and Presb)t¢rian in polity.
It exists to glorify God and to work for th¢ advancement of Christ""s Kingdovn throughout the world.
As a national churc￿ tt acknowledges a distinctiv¢ call and duty to bring the ordinances of religion
to the people in every parish of Seotland through a territorial ministy. It C(￿OI￿teS wtth other
Churches in various ecumenical Ixxlies in Scotland and Iwnd.
Public worship is held at the Chur¢lL l(Kated on Erskine FeTry Road, every Sunday throughout the
year at I 1.00 a.m. Communion services ar¢ held quarterlv and additional services are held
periodically, including ecumenical services and at sp￿la1 tirnes in the Christian calendar. Monthlv
mid-week Chit-chat worship services at I pm in The Comerstone compl¢m￿rt the I lam worship in
the Church. Online services hav¢ continued to be a pKipular addition to the provision of worship.
Church ortsanisations cover a range of activities including children's SU￿laY Kid& Senior Choir.
Junior Singers and the Chit Chat Group. Girls, Brigade. aifiliated to the Church but with their
organisational structures: use the church facilities to provide activities for £irls and is under the
supervision of th¢ Kirk Session. The Boys, Brigade ￿aS re-established in August 2024 and has
proved to be a popular addition to our children and youth services. chU￿h premises are also made
available to other users approved by the Congregational Board {Kirk Session after 13 March 2024)
when space allows.

Achievements and Perfornmnce
Bishopton Parish Church is an activ¢ congregation prOVAdll￿ groups and activitses for all ages
ithin the corÉllnurrity. Services of worship continue the lu)k with the COmULuDity, seeking to
relevant to peoples, life experience and specific to seasons and occa8iOnS tbroughout the COUTse
of the year. Church organisatiODS continue to prosw. The expanding housing developn]ent,
commonly kI￿wn as U)aTgxvel', on the fornw Royal Ordnance Factory site in Bishopton
continues to grow wbich will incrvase the popujation within the parish and presents an
opportunity for outreach for the churclL
Coronavirns Restrictions
The activities of the Congregation have graduaIty returned to nonnal after the passing of Covid
restrictions although some memlws prefer watchillg the online services rnther tl)an
attending worship in the church and in Th¢ Corn¢rstone.
Financial Revll￿
There was a surplus of £23,010 in the Ge￿al (Unrestricted) Fund for the year. There was a
sustained increase i￿oMe from ha]1 lets during the year and an increase in offerings. There
w¢r¢ also several singl¢ donations toialling jwt over £7.000. Our uiility costs in¢r¢ased
significantly in th¢ y¢ar, &s anticipated. General Funds at th¢ end of 2024 were £77.019 cornpar¢d
to £54,009 at the end of 2023.
Restricted Fun(Ls had a surplus of £3,577 for the year. TP￿e w&8iust over £6,000 expenditure on
conservation monttoring and IT infrastructure at The Cornerstone, more than offset by regular
giving to the fund and by Gift Aid recovery on those givlngs. Restricted Funds at the end of 2024
were £82,649 compared to £79,072 at the end of 2023.
Reserves Policy
It has been the Tn￿tees, policy to build up Teserves over a numkn of years in anticipation of the
need for ￿￿jor reknbishtnellt or repairs of our accommodatio￿ The church building ￿ old aud
will require substantsl works on a regular b&sis, although it is currentty in a good state of repair.
Within the Restricted Funds there is a Church Restoration Fund PTimarty foT repairs to the
Church buildn]g. Church n￿￿E￿rS continue to give additional financial support to the Church
Restoration Fund. mostly by standing order. a￿1 given this continuing level of support, the
trustees I￿lIeve that the CU￿ellt wlicies are adequate.
