As a national church, it acknowledges a dlstlnctive call and duty to bring the ordinances of religion to thg people in every parish of Scotl8nd through a terrbtcKlal mlnisty. It cTroperates with other Churches in various ecumenical bc¥Jies in Scouand and beyorvj, Worshlp The principal service of worship at St Andrew's Church takes place at 11am on Sunday momings. wrth a second servl¢e every week on Wedn8sday momings and other occasional services as approprlate. Twenty tWenty-ts was a year in whith the congregation continued its 'build back. from the impact of the pandemic. Much that had been on hold was given 8 fresh start and a steady stream of members found their way back to both worship and Ihe the wder lrfe of th8 congregatKJn. To thal end. special gatherfngs- such as Bible Course- were held to bring people together and to rebuild 8 sense of togethemess. Th8 use of our facilrties by outside bodies also began lo pick up. Whilst overall numbers involved remain below pre-pandemic levels, there arg sufficient 'signs of life, lo offer encouragement and hope. Group$ and Organl8atlon8 Aswith our worship together, our various groups and organisions have been getting bad( into the rhythm of meeting together. Our Guild and Dementia Café. for example, both hav9 enjoyed seeing their various member$hips returning to being able lo moet facefaCe In fellowship with lh9 Sense of belonging that brings. Communlty oUrvrk among thildren and young F4ople, induding in local schools. continues lo develop. OurChildr8n & Familias Worker is al the forefront of this whth is supporting positive contact with families from across the wider community. Needs amongst the NN)st vulnerable rnfrmbers of our wider communty continued to be a key focus tt)roughout 2022. We conts'nued lo provhde support through our range of mental health and wellbeing projects, our Havilah Project IvKJrking with those stswgling wth addiction) and contributing to our loeal foodbank. Tho Wid&r World Through 2022, the (x)ngregation maintained Its commitment to the wlder wodd through various collections etc. Not least were the offerings uplifted trj support Tearfund's international work and to support th6 work of'Reath Acoss'. a local charity supporting those experienTrng mental health drfficuhies.

Andrew's Church and all of its neighbours considered the k>ossibility of a united future - all of thls In response to The Church of Seotland's PT8sbytery Mission Planning pro¢e$s as launched at the General Assembly of 2021. These dlscxJssionsw8re far from straightrorward but led in the end to the approval ofa plan which will see nlne COnggationS - Induding Aroath. St. Andrew's - fomiing one new congr8gation. The St. Andrew's buildings are among those to be relalned and the rA)ngregation wll go forward klI1Vely. retaining something of its uniqu8ness while committing itself to greater unity and togelhemess than has hitherto been the case. Towards the end ofthe year, our h)ng-slandiTrJ minister announced to the Kirk Sesston and congregation that he intended to demil the charge early in 2023. was 8ppolnled minister in January 1992 and through Ihe years Ihat followed, led the congregation into new chapters in Its Ilfe - nol least to a new understanding of its wponsibility to look beyond its walls lo the needs of the der world. Though his departure will be the cause of sadness across church and community, the arrival of a new mlnlster s11 brfng freshness and new challenges lo the Congregation as it continues its life and witness. Flnanclal Revl•w The income for the year was £202.812 principally from donations, legacies, fundraising and charitable aCte$. Wlth expenditure of £282.778 and a loss on Inv&stsn8nts of £6,160 the Ghurch had a deficit of £86,126 for the year. Thls compris85 a deficit of £23.548 on Unrestricted Funds IG.f. a surplus of £1,472 for 20211, a deficlt of £57.355 on Reslricled Funds {c.f. 8 surplus of £169.668 for 20211 and a deficit of £5,223 on Endowm8nt Fundg (c.f. a surplus of £5,382 for 2021). As part of -ShapIng Ils slructures. the Kirk Session developed a new way ofoffering leadershlp to the congreg8Uon. Thi8 included the establishment of a Leadership Group, a muth smaller body than the rk Sesslon. which 1$ able lo engage in the klnd of effective decision-making and oversight thal larger. more ujmbersome bodles often find dlfficuSt. Thls group is glven resKKm$ibility and authority by the Kirk Session to set direction and make strateglc de¢l$lons relating to our immedlale and k)ng-tem ftjture. The group is made up of the minister and Session Clerk together with nine others.. five elders and four from the wlder congregation. Some members of the Le&lership Group serve as the link parson bafvn our Core Groups and ts Leadership Group, providing hvo-way communitIon belween the groupg. In addrtion to the Leadership Group. there are four further groups. each wlth a specffic remlt which supports key aspects of the church's work. Thg groups cover lask- areas. namely. Worship Group. FellowshiplHospilality Group., and tWO°SUPFwV' areas, Fabric Group and, Finance and Adminlstrauon Group. In addiknon to these groups we also have a 'projecl' man8gement group for Hawlah. vthiGh is our local community- based work, reaching out to those who find themseleS marginah'sed by society at largg. The coordinator also manages the ¢hurch's PVG scheme. sems Pollcy In 2019. the Trustees reviewed the resèrves pollcyforthe ¢harfty, tsking into account the current and future liabilities. As a result of the review, The Trustges agreed a revised policy namely lo hold general or free resems of £25,000 induding d8signaled fvnds lo ensu they have SLrfftcient funds to cover liabilities as they fall du8. Th8 general or free reserves are the unrestricted funds les5 the value of fixed assets not readity available to be spent. At the year- erKI the Church held free reseryes of £32,417 and had met their tapJet. Structur•, GovernanGO and Management The congregation 1$ a registered charity no SC005478 and is administered in accordance with the temts of the Oeed of Constitution {Unitary Fomil and is subject to the Acts and Regulations of the Ggnoral Asserrtsly of the Churth of Scotland. Membgrs of Iha Kirk Session are the charity Trustegs. Thg lfjtk Sèssion members are the elders of the d)urch and are Gh05en from those members of the churth who are wnsidèrad to have the appropriate gifts and skn'lls. The rninister, who is a member of the Kirk Session, is elect8d by the congregation and inducted by Presbytery. The Kirk Session, whi¢h meets approximatety four times a year, is responsible for the leadership and govemance of the congregation. It delegate$ ¢ertain of its responsibilities to committees which it appoints- the members of these committees being eldors and ordinary members of the congregation with all of them being selected acrdIng to their relevant skills and talents. Of the various committees, the Leadershlp Group is charged with providing overall strategic leadership. others cover, for?xample, finance and fabric. Al committees are responslble to the Kirk Sessbn.
