Structure, Governance and Management 

## **Constitution** 

Help for Abandoned Animals came into being in 1985.   Its aims are to rescue and re-home stray and abandoned animals and prevent abandonment of animals.   At present this involves :- 

- advertising for home for dogs currently at the Dundee Local Authority Kennels in Brown Street. 

- Paying to take some difficult to home dogs from Brown Street Kennels to foster and then to re-home them and to pay for veterinary treatment if required. 

- The upkeep and day-to-day running of a sanctuary together with our Angus Branch. 

- Help to re-home animals where the owners die or become too ill to look after their pets. 

- Help to avoid abandonment. 

- Advice on re-homing animals. 

- Fundraising activities such as bookstalls, car boot stalls,stalls at events and collecting cans in shops. 

We would like to do more to help but we are only a small local organisation run entirely by volunteers who give freely of their time. 

## **Appointment of Trustees** 



As Help for Abandoned Animals is a small, purely voluntary charity, there are three Trustees (who are also Bank signatories) who consist of the Chairperson, Secretary/Treasurer and Welfare Officer. They are also members of the Board of Committee which includes Carol Saunders. The positions on the Committee are put up for re-election/election at the yearly AGM.  Cheques require two signatories. 

## **Objectives and Activities** 

The main objective is fundraising to enable the assistance of animals who need veterinary care, kennelling, fostering, re-homing etc.  Activities include running bookstalls, gala day stalls, and appeals in stores and shops. 

## **Charitable Purposes** 

To alleviate suffering of stray and abandoned animals and provide any assistance they may need, e.g. veterinary care, kennelling, fostering. To educate the public about the need for microchipping and neutering of all dogs and cats. To assist members of the public to rehome any animal for whatever reason they are unable to keep. 

## **Achievement and Performance** 

Our finances have mainly y been focused on helping other voluntary charities with low funding  with vet bills, and emergencies. We are not so involved with Brown Street Kennels as they do not need our help so much. A cat rescue had a serious accident with their van and we contributed towards another as they help our charity a lot. Another animal charity had a seriously high vet bill they were struggling to 0ay and we helped with that. 

## **Financial Review** 

We are a non-profiting making, purely voluntary charity.  In the last financial year we expended £8,125.46 . and had income of £ 367.63 , which consisted of a donation and bank interest. . 

## **Reserves Policy** 

Help for Abandoned Animals has two Bank Accounts, one as an ongoing payments in/out facility and the other as a back-up to make sure we remain financially solvent.
