It exists to glorify God and to work for the advancement of Christ's Kingdom throughout the world. As a national Church, it acknowledges a distinctive call and duty to bring the ordinances of religion to the people in every parish of Scotland through a territorial ministry. It cooperates with other Churches in various ecumenical bodies in Scotland and beyond.

(Act of the General Assembly VII, 2003, s1(b)) 2) to labour for the advancement of the Kingdom of God throughout the world.  (Article 1 of the Articles Declaratory) 3) to bring the ordinances of religion to the people in every parish of Scotland through a territorial ministry (Article 3 of the Articles Declaratory)
