Objectives and activities

Our Society was set up in 1896 to bring enjoyment to the local community through music and singing. The society originally performed Operatics. This evolved over the years and we now perform musicals from different eras and styles. The society was originally called Cupar Amateur Opera Company.

Every May we have a fundraising concert over 2 nights to boost our reserves as performing a main musical is expensive. We then perform a different musical each year, over 5 nights, the first full week of February.

This year’s performance was Sister Act, a musical based on the smash hit film of the same name.

We did manage to carry out some fundraising throughout the year. We sang carols in our local Tesco and Morrisons stores at Christmas, held our annual coffee morning in February, had a quiz night in January and promoted CAMS at a stall at the local Farmers Market. During the concert and main show performances, we held raffles and sold refreshments and programmes.

At our AGM, committee members stepped down and new committee members were voted on my society members. Committee members are expected to serve for 3 years

Achievements and performance

We continued to produce a concert of the high standard Cupar audiences expect. Sister Act was a great success and was a sell-out show and again CAMS used a video wall at the back of the stage, due to the success of using it the previous years.

During show week, we had a bucket collection and donated the proceeds to other local charities. This year’s collection was again given to Cupar Age Concern.

Financial review

Our reserves have reduced this year and they are not at the level we would expect and this is currently being investigated.

Details of any profit

Sister Act was an expensive show to perform and our concert was a success. Unfortunately, we have made an actual loss this year of £7,112.

Future plans

Next year’s main show will be a more traditional show, My Fair Lady, and we plan to have our annual fundraising concerts in May as usual.
