Trustees Annual Report Year Ending 31 December 2025

The objective of the Boys’ Brigade is ‘ The advancement of Christ’s kingdom among boys and the promotion of habits of obedience, reverence, discipline, self-respect and all that tends towards a true Christian manliness.’

Battalion produced a recruitment leaflet which was passed to all local primary schools. We had a good response to this and recruited around 6 new boys. Our Anchors and Juniors meet from 6.30pm – 7.30pm on a Thursday evening in Johnstone High Parish Church Halls in Quarry Lane.

We currently have 6 regular boys in our Anchor section with the same in our Junior section. We have no Company section for now.

We have 4 fully trained officers and a registered helper who come along each week to assist in the running of the evening.

Our principle source of income to the company is through weekly subscriptions. We had a capital transfer from our Investment Account to help with fees, which were our major expenditure during 2025.

Alongside our general account for day to day running of the company, there is a restricted balance of £3,680 invested with the Church of Scotland Deposit Fund. This total includes £168 of interest earned during 2025.

Signed on behalf of the trustees.

Independent Examiner’s Report to the Trustees of 1[st] Johnstone Boys’ Brigade Company

I report on the accounts of the charity for the year ended 31 December 2025 which are set out on the following page.

Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner

The charity’s trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the terms of the Charities and Trustees Investment (Scotland) act 2005 and the Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006. The charity trustees consider that the audit requirement of Regulation 10(1)(d) of the Accounts Regulations does not apply. It is my responsibility to examine the accounts as required under section 44(1)(c) of the Act and to state whether particular matters have cppme to my attention.

Basis of independent examiner’s statement

My examination is carried out in accordance with Regulation 11 of the Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison if the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeks explanations from the trustees concerning such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently I do not express an audit opinion on the accounts.

Independent examiner’s statement

In the course of my examination, no matter has come to my attention

  1. which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in any material respect the requirements to keep accounting records in accordance with Section 44(1)(a) of the 2005 Act and Regulation 4 of the 2006 Accounts Regulations, and to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and comply with Regulation 9 of the 2006 Accounts Regulations have not been met, or

  2. to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding to be reached.
