Trustees Annual Report Bargeddie Parish Church Year Ended 31 December 2020 Structure, Governance and Management Governing Document The church is administered in accordance with the ternls of the Model Deed of Constitution Recruitment and Appointment of Trustees Members of the Kirk Session and the Congregational Board are the charity trustees. The Kirk Session members are the elders of the church and are chosen from those members of the church who are considered to have the appropriate gifts and skills required. The minister,. who is a member of the Kirk Session, is elected by the congregation and inducted by Presbytery. The Congregational Board is appointed from within the congregation and members of the congregation are invited to nominate individuals, who are believed to have the right skills and commitment to contribute to the management of the affairs of the church, to become members of the Board. Board Members are appointed at the Annual Stated Meeting and serve for a period of three years after which they must seek re-election at the next Annual Stated meeting. Organisational Structure The Church of Scotland is Trinitarian in doctrine, Refornied in tradition and Presbyterian in polity. It exists to glorify God and to work for the advancement of Christ's kingdom. As a national church. It acknowledges a distinctive call and duty to bring the ordinances of religion to the people in every parish of Scotland through a territorial ministry. It Co-operates with other Churches in various ecumenical bodies in Scotland and beyond. With difficulties in recruiting members of the congregation to the Congregational Board, these functions, related for fabric and finance, have been carried out by members of the Kirk Session. The Kirk Session meets ordinarily 4 times in the year for management of the spiritual affairs of the church. Session elders also meet every 6 weeks for a prayer breakfast. Objectives and Activities As of this date the charge is currently vacant and has been for at least 5 years, following the ill health Tetirement of Rev. John Fairful. Whilst leave had been granted to call a minister on a 0.5 FT with a 7-year renewable tenure basis, the whole process has been sisted. Discussion have been held with the Presbytery Parish Planning Committee, to detennine a possible linkage within the Coatbridge attestation area. These discussions did not lead to any measure of agreement and given the difficulties in filling the principal offices of the church, with great reluctance the Kirk Session resolved, on 6 December 2020, to petition the Presbytery of Hamilton to move towards the dissolution of the charge.

The Presbytery of Hamilton are currently preparing a Basis of Dissolution. Once agreed by the Kirk Session, Congregation, Presbytery and the National Church, it is proposed that Alistair Brockett, Alan Vesey, and Tom Donaldson from the current Kirk Session and 3 members appointed by the Presbytery will, take over the administration of the congregation and conclude the arrangements for the disposal of all moveable assets. and the sale of the church properties. As a first step in this process the local Trustees have transferred the title for the hall and associated grounds to the General Trustees of the Church of Scotland. Every effort will be made during this time to ensure that donated or gifted items are returned to the original donors and that as many of the church artefacts are transferred to location within the village. Like the nation, the church has suffered this year from the effect of government restrictions to control the effect of the Coronavirus. In line with the Scottish Government Regulations and the guidance from the Church of Scotland. all places of worship were closed on 23rd March. Some relaxation was offered to allow churches to re-open from 2nd August, with strict limits on attendance and Covid specific hygiene and distancing measures in place. The Kirk Session could not guarantee that all the necessary requirements could be put in place and maintained and reluctantly decided not to re-open for public worship. The church has remained closed during the period of this report. Prior to the restrictions, Worship was conducted each Sunday, with Communion celebrated the last Sunday of January. Services were conducted on a rotational basis by Lay Readers and retired ministers. The Kirk Session and congregation are deeply appreciative of their continued support. The Crèche and Sonseekers meet on Sunday morning commencing after a period of joint worship with the congregation, then moving to the Church Hall after the children, s address for teaching aimed at children. On the first Sunday of every month, morning worship is held in the Safety Zone, a community centre in the heart of Bargeddie. This is to provide easier access to worship as the church buildings are located outside the village. The Bible Study and Prayer Fellowship meet every Thursday evening where we also maintain contact with many missionary partners throughout the world. We enjoy occasional visits to the meetings when any of these missionaries are on furlough so that the fellowship is updated of their work and to inforni our prayers. Members of the congregation of Bargeddie Church are involved closely in the Safety one through volunteering and serving on the Board of Directors. The Safety Zone is a Bargeddie Church initiated project sited in the centre of the village. In line with the Scottish Government Regulations all these activities were suspended and have never resumed. Mid-week Bible Study and Prayer is led by those three elders who attend. Attendance at worship was on average 40-50 a week. Crèchelsonseekers varies but averages at about 5 41 Page

children and Bible Study and Prayer meeting, 5-8. Despite the low attendance by members of the congregation, a faith￿1, consistent and deterniined prayer ministry is maintained. The Sonseekers and young people of our congregation lead the church in supporting Operation Christmas Child (part of Samaritan's Purse ministry). This activity has also been curtailed this year. The congregation also supports various charities and Christian ministries such as Erskine, Tearfund, Scottish Bible Society and Glasgow City Mission through special collections throughout the year. Funds have also been raised for our Fabric and Organ appeals. The Bible Study and Prayer Group sponsor the education of two children in India, one in Russia and some 48 children for their Sunday School material through Samaritan's Purse. Regular support is given to these visiting missÈonaries in aid of their work. Financial Review The closure of the church and the attendant group activities has placed a strain on our finance. Our main source of unrestricted income is from weekly offerings, donations and Gift Aid Tax Recovery. In the year under review this has seen a thastic reduction of 60 %. Payments have also reduced by 70 % reflecting the effect of the closure of all activities. Sadly, because of restricted cash flow and administration issues we failed to pay our Ministry and Mission Icontribution of £31,260. This was a matter of regret, since for many years previously Bargeddie Parish Church was one of the highest giving congregation per head in Presbytery and never at any time was in shortfall. The Trustees will endeavour to secure the necessary finance to clear this shortfall in the early part of the year. At the point of Dissolution all funds in the control of the Trustees and the proceeds of the sale of any heritable propety will fall to the General Trustees of the Church of Scotland, who will also meet any outstanding debts. The main source of income on our Restricted Funds are donations and all have shown a dramatic decrease because of the restrictions placed on our activities. Reserves Poliey It is the Trustees policy to hold reserves of approximately two months expenditure including designated funds. At the year end the Church held unrestricted cash funds of £25,222, (£18767.93). The Church also held Restricted Funds of £9,885 (£11,636.85) in the Fabric Fund and £14,766.35 (£14,766.35) in the Organ Fund.

Statement of Trustee's Responsibilities The members of the Kirk Session/Congregational Board must prepare financial statements which give sufficient detail to enable an appreciation of the transactions of the Church during the financial year. The members of the Kirk Sessionlcongregational Board are responsible for keeping proper accounting records which, on request, must reflect the f￿anCIal position of the Church at that time. This must be done to ensure that the financial statements comply with the Charities and Trustees Investment Scotland Act 2005, the Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006 and the Regulations Anent Congregationa] Finance approved by the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland in 2007. They are also responsible for safeguarding the assets of the Church and must take reasonable steps for the prevention and/or detection of fraud and other irregularities. Approved by the Trustees and signed on their behalf: Session Clerk 12. April 2021
