	The aims of the Grou are:
	p a) To stimulate interest in and care for, the beauty, history and character of Badenoch & Strathspey; b) To encourage active conservation of the area through wise use; c) To encourage high standards of planning and architecture in harmony with the environment.
	The Grou rovided comments and information in relation to
	p p planning applications and the impacts they may have on particular species and landscapes, recreational opportunities and aspects of the environment such as flood risk. The Group liased with other environmental NGOs regarding issues and sites of shared interest. We shared information publicly through various media and we engaged with public consultations regardingaspects of the environment.

Achievements and performance

Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the financial period

The Group provided comments and information about the impacts on

natural heritage interests and the environment of developments including an extension to the caravan site undertaken without planning permission on The Mossie, Grantown; proposals for a campsite, 7 cabins and a large house bordering the River Spey at Boat of Balliefurth, which was refused by the Cairngorms National Park Authority and refused on appeal; a major chalet development at Aviemore, impacting an osprey feeding loch and with an important population of Devil's bit Scabious that BSCG predicted was likely to support the rare Small Scabious Mining bee. In summer we confirmed the bee's presence on the site. BSCG participated in a citizen science project to assess how well the Biodiversity Policy (Policy 3) in National Planning Framework 4 is being applied in practice. Members of BSCG attended the launch of the project report in Holyrood and gave a brief presentation about our case work for the project. The report identified“continuing cumulative destruction of nature”. BSCG continued to be actively involved in Scottish Environment LINK, especially with the Freshwater Group, Wildlife Group and Planning Group. Members undertook recording of riverflies, especially of the endemic Northern February Red stonefly on the River Spey, as well as wildlife recording at sites threatened with development, including at Nethybrige. BSCG joined Plantlife's informal group Saving Special Grasslands project, and recorded grassland fungi and flowers such as field gentian. We responded to a consultation in the Cairngorms National Park on fire byelaws; and also provided comments on the Cairngorms Capercaillie Emergency Plan. We commented on the Forest Standard Certification Audit at Glenmore Forest and affected positive change regarding management of waste materials.
