Objectives,

The aim of the playgroup is to promote the aim of the Scottish Pre-School Playgroups association, which is to advance the education of pre-school children so that they may take a constructive place in the community and also the education of their parents, and in furtherance of that aim,

Activities & Achievements

Starting back in August 2023, we were almost at full capacity from the outset. The continuation of children within our setting, enabled great continuity of learning for the children and further development opportunities for the staff to cement bonds and progress learning with the children.

The playgroup are continuing to utilize our foods partners, Co-op, Asda, Greggs, Lidl and KFC to provide produce for our larder. We also share excess foods on occasion with the community group Helping Hands and Hayshead community Larder. We continue to offer a breakfast option as well as snack for our children utilizing as much as possible from the food donations we collect. We continue to educate the children on “where our food comes from” growing a wide assortment of fruit and vegetables in both our polytunnel and garden vegetable beds

Activities & Achievements (continued)

Our successes this year were radish, peas, sweetcorn, broccoli, melon, spring onion, tomatoes, potatoes, cucumber and carrots. Utilizing cooking on our firepit the children helped prepare some homegrown veg for soup, picked wild brambles from our garden to make firepit pancakes and campfire bread cooked, twisted onto sticks. The children all love the firepit activities.

We welcomed our littlest ladybird member Archie in August 2023, a baby boy for our team member Laura and her partner Kyle. Allison Richardson was promoted to manager following her successful application following a period of stepping into the role. Two EYP’s, Sarah and Chelsea were successful in their application to take on a more senior role to support Allison.

Our AGM was held on the 1[st] November 2023 in the playgroup setting and it was a good opportunity to meet the parents, our committee office bearers remained the same, providing the playgroup with great continuity. We decided not to increase our fee’s this year after an increase last year. The availability of optional Ladybird uniform of T Shirts and Fleece hoodies with the ladybird logo made up, are continuing to be popular with parents purchasing at a cost of £6.00 and £14.00, sold at cost to the parents.

Fundraising totalled £4,418 and activities included A Teddy Toddle and picnic raising £1,373, Photo shoot commission of £70, Cauliflower cards commission £42, Christmas raffle raising £540.50, an Easter chocolate raffle raising £184.00, Football cards £200.00, and the Sponsored Wheelie raising £1,585,.

Funding grants from neighbourly for £500.00 to purchase a healthy meal bag for each family, allowing for participation in cooking a one pot chicken alfredo pasta dish, and a soup bag with all the ingredients provided for each child.

A donation of £250.00 from our local co-op allowed for the purchase of garden equipment and a grant from neighbourly to replace our outdoor sandpit allowed for a multi functional boat to be purchased.

November and December were busy with various events, a sponsored teddy toddle for all the children in the POURING RAIN!!!

Followed by a teddybear picnic on our return from our adventures. A Christmas themed photoshoot by a local photographer, the children making Christmas pictures which were turned into Christmas cards, gift tags and mugs, and some contributions from our parents of toys and gifts to the Christmas Appeal for Angus Toy Appeal.

A visit to the local panto to see” Freezin”,(Oh no you didn’t) with all children and an accompanying adult was a great event to bring us to our end of the year with a Christmas party, complete with, bouncy castle, ball pit and a visit from Santa(he is real) to deliver gifts and a selection box for all the children.

The staff had a small celebration lunch following the Christmas party which was a nice opportunity to bring 2023 to a close.

2024 brought a wealth of experiences and events for the children, an Easter raffle brought in some fundraising and we provided all the children with an easter egg partially donated by local supermarkets community funds.

A sponsored wheelie which allowed the children to bring, bikes, scooters, prams and anything else with wheels to complete numerous circuits of a course was a great activity enjoyed by all. The summer trip allowed for all children and an accompanying adult to board two coaches to take us for a day trip to the

Scottish Deer Centre in Fife, a great day with deer, brown bears, birds of prey, and otters to name a few, a huge activity barn and outdoor activities to enjoy the day in the sunshine. End of temi allowed for an activitieslfun week. A visit to Jumpin Joeys, a local 50ft play centre followed by lunch for all at McDonalds, a real treat and an afternoon at the playpark. The week followed with a bouncy casle and fun day in the playgroup garden, a waterfight day followed by a visit from the local ice cream van, where all children waited patiently in tum to choose a treat of choice.
