Members of the Klrk Session are Elders and Charty Trustees. They are chosen from those members of the Church who are considered to have the appropriate gifts and skills. The

SC(M12294 The Kirk Session, which is responsible for spiritual affairs within the Church. usually meets five time5 per year. T•Thvards the end of the year another Elder stepped down a5 Elder / Charity Trustee from 30th Ortober 2022 but remaifts as a non-voting Elder. Objectives and Actlvftles The Church of Scotland Is Trinitarian in doctrtne. Refomied in tradition and PSbyterlan in policy. It exists to glorify God and work for the advancement of Christ's Kingdom throughout the world. As a national Church it acknowledges a distinrtive call and duty to bring the ordinances of religion to the people in every Parish of Scotland through a terrttorial ministry. It co-operates with otr churches in various ecumenical bodies in Scotland and beyond. St Columba's Parish Church has a membership of approximately 272 drawn from all part5 of the town. Throughout 2022. in keeping with Government Guidan, many groups were able to meet in person, including The Guild, the MAC (Monday Altemative Club). God'5 Families. Jolly Tots Toddler Group. Bible Study and Prayer Group and the Peregrines Walking Group. The Jolty Tots Toddler 8roup is very well attended and arts a5 a feeder group for God's Families which is also well attended, and this group is encouraged to attend 4Jecial Sunday Services e.8. Harvest and Nativty servi5. The Joint Guild of the Largs Churches is very well supported from the various Churches. The Church during 2022 ha5 arted as a drop-off wint for food to support the North Ayrshire Foodbank and a150 a drop-off point for Women's Aid in support of Scottish Women's Aid. Another new initiative fun by the Church is -Heat and Hospitality "where On a month people can come into the Church for a hot bowl of soup. tea or coffee arKI fellowship. During June, July, August. and December the Churth doors were open to allow people to come in forsome quiet time and prayer. The Church has run a fund-raising event to help a young local 8irl to have special treatment in the USA on her legs. We also suppted a concert run by a musical group called the Upbeats where the donations raised helped Brain Research UK and the Ayrshire Hospice. The Church is also used by cornmunty organisations such as a Tap and Ballet Dancing School. Line Danr5, OFPOrtunities In Retirement dan group, and as a contart location for the facilrtation of estranged families, which has several very vulnerable members. Music continues to be an important part of Church worship. Hrrwever, although the talents of our organist were able to be utilised during Covid. the use of the cholr was limited. We use the Revised Common Lectionary linked to Scripture pa55a8es. As part of the linkage, with Fairtie Parish Church, our traditional Sunday Art of Worship takes place at 11.30arn. In-person Worship continued throughout the year. however. to

This provided opportunities for intemational fellowship to those who have internet capabiltties. This developed a new online community of faith, attracting several hundred followers from across the Globe. All Acts of Worship were recorded and subsequently embedded into the Church Website before being copied onto DVDS and CDS for distribution to those members and nursing homes who were not able to access online worship. Approximately 60 members join for worship on Sunday mornings. With the approach of Advent and Christmas &Jnday Morning Worship incorporated many themed activitie5 such a5 Christingle and Caro15 & Candle5 as well as our Annual Nativity Play on the last Sunday before Christmas. In conjunction with our linked Church at Fairlie. the congregation held an Outdoor Nativwty at Kelbum Estate. This was widely supported by the community. Church choir and Church members from around Largs and Fairlie. In addition to the performers and choir, about 80-1 people attended of all ages. God's Families also talked about the Nativity with suitable handcraft activities. This was followed by a family meal. Each child in God's Familie5 received a Real Advent Calendar. Older members of the congregation received a Christmas gift. Additionally. the Minister co-ordinated the local Churches of Scotland in Largs and Fairlie through Advent and Christmas to ensure that every opportunity was made available for people to experience the joy of the Birth of Jesus. Achievements and PerfOrn With the Church being open for worship and prayer the leaders of the Young Church continued to make themselves available to collett for the North Ayrshire Food Bank. This was very successful as. each Thursday. bag5 of food and groceries were regularly filled, and cash donations received. before these items were delivered to the Ardrossan Foodbank. This initiative was developed to allow locals, and member5 of the Church's Erowing online Communty. to make donations to the Scottish Women's Refuge. including new clothes and new knitting. Our Young Church continued to support Water Aid. Members of the Kirk Session and Minister keep in touch with housebound I vulnerable adu5 within our congregation. A Newsletter"LindmarV is produced and delivered to the Church members to keep in touch with them to help guard against loneliness and isolation. The flowers which beautify the sanctuary are given to members who are Sick or celebrating significant event. The Kirk Session takes its responsibility for Child Protertion seriously. All Elder5 have undergone Safeguarding training through the kKal Presbytery via the Zoom platfomi. It is the intention that others involved in work wtth the m05t vulnerable of our congregation and community, including the Minister. will undergo Safeguarding training within the "Safeguarding Leaming Pathwaf throughout this year. The Charity continues to comply with legal Dats Protection Pn>cedures. the requtrements of which were modified in 2016 by The Church of Scotland. We also keep up to date with the ongoing changes provided by central Church of Scotland administration.

An updated H&S information book is located on the table opposite the noti board in the main corridor. SC002294 The Minister continues as Chaplain to Largs Thistle F(K•tball avb. He attends training sessions weekly and is present at as many Home Games as possible. Thi5 voluntary Ministry is an outreach to the community. Financial Review The Charlty continues to receive the major part of its income from regular offerings from Members and from open plate collertions. Most mernbe contributions are Gift Aided. In 2022 Direct Givings (including Gift Aid) amounted to £57.435 (2021: £64,907}. a reduction of 13%. Income from Charrtable Activities was £1551812021: £8,825) consisting mainly of income from the Hire of Premises. Total Unrestricted Income for 2022 wa5 £79.612 (2021: £120.953). Unrestricted Expenditure from Charitable Activities a150 reduced in 2022 to £73,594 (2021: £127.698). This was due to reduttions in Heating and Lighting and Major Fabric Expenditure. Totsl Unrestricted Expenditure for 2022 was £73X17 {2021= £127.999). Overall, total Income was £81.903 (2021: £134,023) wtth total Expenditure of £76,499 12021= £134.255). This resulted in a net surplus before loss on investments of £5.404 {2021= net deficit of £232). which redUd after loss on investments of £19.850 to a Net fund rnovement (deficit) of £14,446 {2021= after a gain on investments of £19.772 resulted in a net fund movement (surplus) of £19.540. Total Funds in 2022 were £243,5fy1 (2021." £257,950), a reduttion of 6%. Following substantial expenditure on the fabric of the Church in 2021, this year has only incurred general maintenance expenditure. Monie5 previously set aside to covei retention costs on previous major fabric works have now been added back into the accounts. Costs for the manse continue to be shared 60-40 with Fairlie Parish Church. The general financial uncertainties in the community will continue to affett the Church's finances. There is also uncertainty over the future of the church buildings. pending confirmation of the Presbytery Mission Plan. Investfflert Polky and Perfornn The majority of the Charitys Funds are invested in Church of Scotland Investment Trust Units (Growth and Income). At the end of 2022 the Market Value of the Growth Fund had reduced to £108.(KK) (2021-. £120.8(Kl) and the Market Value of the Income Fund had reduced to £42.240 (2021." £49.920). At the year end Total Funds were £243.5C14 which includes Unrestricted Funds of £57,020. Restricted Funds of £60.59? and Endowment Funds of £125.887. The Trustees are satisfied this level of Funds sufficient for firture needs. sr COLUMBA'S PARISH CHURCH. LARGS YEAR ENDED 315W DEMBER 202Z PURPOSES OF FUNDS Endowment Funds Income from Young Church Fund is used to provide teaching materials for The Young Church. Income from the Flower Fund is used to beautify the Sanctuary on Sunday mornings. Income from the Heating Plant, Window5 and Organ Funds is used for the repair and maintenance of these important assets. The Fabric Fund is to provide resources for the maintenance of Church properties. Restrirted Funds The Tower aock Fund was set up followin8 the decision of North Ayrshi Council to terminate financial sUPPOrt for the aock. The E B Jones Fund is available for expenditure approved by the Family and Charity Twstees. The Sponsored ACtIty Fund is for equipment to assist in services within and outwith the Church building. A new Heat and Hospitality Fund was set up during the year to cover costs of heating the church and providing refreshments to the community. Unrestricted Funds The General Fund is to cover general income and expenditure. The Designated Fabric Fund is to pay for repairs and maintenance to the church building. The Organisations Fund contains money used by The Guild, The Young Church and God's Families. The purposes of other Funds are selfXplanat0ry. 16.
