Republic of Ireland effective from l January 2019
Objectives and Activities
The Church of Scotland is TrinitaTian in doctrine, Refornied in tradition and Presbyterian in
polity. It exists to glorify God and to work for the advancement of Christ s Kingdom throughout
the world. As a national Church it acknowledges a distinclive call and duty to bring ordinances
of religion to every parish of Scotland through a terrilorial n]inisty. It cooperates with oiher
churches in various ecumenical bodies in Scotland and Ixyon(L Locally. Mid Strathearn Church
provides services of worship each Sunday and periodically runs differing events for non-church
members as well as young adults and ¢hildten.
Achievements and perfonnance
WoTship in the Congregation continued each week and w&$ held in each of the 4 Church
buildings
Monzie, Fowlis Wester, Madderty and Gask - on a Tota basis. Rev Bob Milne
remained as locum and was appointed as Interim Moderdtor on 4 June 202). Caf¢ Church
continued to be heEd in the halls, recognising that this w&s the main fonun through which
young¢r families attend Church. Social events were held throughout the year and the Church
retained contact with the 4 local communities through the issue of E&ster greetings and
Christmas Cards b¢ing delivered along with a Church newsletter at the appropriate season.
Thanks to funding received from The McLagan Trust in 2023. activities were organised for the
Senior Adults in the congregation by way of a very suc￿Ssful outing in the sutnmer. Messy
Church was organised on two occasions and at each large numbers of adults and their chilthen
enjoyed stimulating activity, good food and happy fellowship.
Congregational life continued to be inlluenced by the challenges of the current Presbytery
Mission Plan which envisages large scal¢ reorganisation of Congregations and Ministy
provision. Our Congregation will not 80 unaffected by this. and discussions continue amongst
the Kirk Session and including the wider congregation to develop an internal Mission Plan.
Financial review
The finance subcommittee of the Kirk Session advises the Kirk Session of any issues of a
financial nature that they see developing. Ian Roy remain￿ as Church Treasurer and the role
is supported by Assistant Tr¢asurers - Alex Haddow, Archie Mclntyre, Gill Philip and Craig
Robson who make up the finan¢e subcommittee.

Finaneial review
Financially the year 2025 can be described as chaIlenging with the Congregation ￿turnIng a
deficit before investment revalualion totalling £7.089 (2024 - surplus of £6.858). These are
challenging times in many congregations and Mid Stszthearn Church is not unaffected by
pressure on giving and increasing costs. The fllwicial position at the end of the year remains
satisfactory and the congregation r¢mains fll)ancially viable.
Inveslments also grew in value, so adding to the 'rainy day, fimds s¢¢n reserves available
to Congregational life of £189.730 (2024 - £191,403).
The Manse continues to be let. Th¢ rental for the Manse is paid directly to the Church of
Scotland centrally and th¢ congregation is able to claim back certain associated expenses. A
clain] totalling around £10.254 was made in 2025 to cover repai[5 of a fabric nats￿e in all 5
buildings in keeping with the Kirk Session's desired to keep all buildings in good condition.
Investment policy and perfornianee
The church holds investments in the Church of Scotland Income Fund and the Church of
Scotland Growth Fund as per note 9. The primary pu￿￿)Se of these investments is to support
the congregation should a significant unplanned financial challenge arise. If such a situation
arose it would be very difficult to raise funds of any significance from nOrn￿I operating
income. Secondly. inveslment income helps each year with the norn]al day-to-day activities of
the Church. During 2025 it has not been necessary to call on th¢sc res¢rves in any way.
Risk management
The PTinciple of dual control Is applied whenei'er c&8h is being moved or banking transactions
perforned. A professional firm is engaged to perforni the indepcndent examiner role. The
financial eonduct policy previously approved by ihe Kirk Session was reviewed in 2023 and a
final version of that policy was approved when the Kirk Session met in January 2025.
Reserves policy
It is the Trustees, p)licy to hold unrestricted reserves equivalent to Approximately 6 months,
worth of expenditure including sums held in desigDal¢d funds.
Unrestricted flmds". these fimds include £93,663 (2024- £88,811) of inv¢stments. Cash in hand
plus debtors amount to £61.155 (2024 - £66,958).
The Trustees are aware that unrestricted funds may be used for expensive unplanned repairs
and maintenance in the future.
In totaI. at the end of the year the Church held Unrestricted Funds of £153.222 (2024
£154,059). This included GiftAid receivable of£6.385 (2024- £6,113) and creditors of £1,595
(2024-£1,710).
Restricted and Endowment ￿lld5 are held of £16.951 (2024- £18,353) and £19.557 (2024-
£18.991) respectively. The purpos¢s of these funds is described on page 13 of the accounts.
