**What the charity does:** The Trust was originally governed by a Deed of Trust established by the late Malcolm A. Mackenzie on 8 September 1962. The principal objects of the Trust are to assist aged and infirm persons residing within the former Burgh of Stornoway to enable them to continue to reside in their own homes and avoid the necessity for their removal to a public or other institution, such assistance to be in addition to, and not in substitution for, any welfare service which is offered out of public funds. Funds not utilised by the needs of the primary beneficiaries are offered to the Vestry of St Peter&#x27;s Episcopal Church, Stornoway, as secondary beneficiaries.

**Objectives:** (a) To assist and relieve aged and infirm persons in need by appointing or funding a suitable person or persons to cany out or assist with such general household duties and od,er work as said aged and infirm persons are unable physically to perform, with the intention of enabling such persons to continue to reside in their own homes. declaring that, widlOut prejudice to d,e foregoing generality, such assistance shall normally be in addition to, and not in substitution for, any service provided for out of public funds. declaring also d,at the Trustees may and should co-operate with and assist, financially or odlelwise, any charitable institution which assists and looks after d,e interests and well-being of such persons.  (b) To assist and relieve persons in need suffering from any illness, disease, accident, disability or infirmity brought about through no fault of d,eir own, by: (i) providing a grant or grants of money to any such person who is as a result unable to follow any trade, employment or occupation and whose income is, in the sole judgement of the Trustees, considered to be inadequate for d,at person&#x27;s needs and maintenance. and/or (ii) providing, purchasing or making over to any such person who is as a result compelled to give up his or her normal trade, employment or occupation, such tools and materials and a grant or grants of money towards capital sufficient to set up such person in a craft or new trade, employment or occupation.  (c) To assist and relieve any disabled or odlerwise permanendy incapacitated person by providing them with any artificial limb or od,er surgical or medical appliance or fitment which is essential to or will provide a significant benefit to such person, subject always to the condition that in each and every case it must be shown to the satisfaction of the TtUstees that the limb, appliance or fitment applied for will be more beneficial to the applicant dlan that which dle applicant would be entided to receive from, or at dle expense of, the National Healdl Service or any other welfare service provided from public funds.
