Trustees Annual Roport Year Endad 31 December 2024 The Trustees present the annual report and accJ)unts for Innerleithen. Traquair and Walkerbum Parish Church of Scotland for the year ended 31 December 2024. Objectives and Activities The Church of Scotland is Trinrtarian in doctrine. refornd in tradition and Presbyterian in policy. It exists to glorify God and to for the advancement of Christ's Kingdom throughout the world. As a national Church, it acknowledges a distinctive call and duty to bring the ordinances of religion to the people in every parish in Scotland through a territorial ministry. It c(koperates with other Churches in various ecumenical bojies in Scotland and beyond. To fulfil these objectives in our Parish. Innerleithen, Traquair and Vvalkerbum Parish Church of Scotland carries out the following activities.. 1.Worshlp. Worship vas held in Innerferthen Church on a weekly basis. For those unable to attend in person this service was slreamed live on the internet. Monthly worship look place in Traquair Kirk on the 1# Thursday aftemoon of the month. in Walkefburn Public Hall on the 3rd Sunday aftemoon of the month. Church news was distributed weekly to those members who had an intemet connection and also on printed monthly news sheets available to anyone that required one. Regular monthly sepiices were also provided at Sl Ron8n'8 Care Home. Ecumenically, various events including a Christmas Carol Service was held in Cardrona Village Hall as Ire ts services at the Parish's War Memorials on Remembrance Sunday . Communty services V•Ere held to math the Kirkin. of the Principals in Innerlerthen Game5 Week, the switch on of the Christmas lights in Innerleithen and the CommenMent of Walkerbum Summer Festival Week. Remembrance Sunday saw the unifonnal organisalions at the church servlce in Innerleithen and at the War Memorial in Walkerbum.. Again this year we took part in Switched on Saturday in Innerleithen. Following the official 'switch on, St Ronan's Silver Band led the way to the church for Communty carol singing followed by refreshments. All children in attendance were given a 'goody bag, containing sweets. a small book with a Christian message and a couple of fun items. On Easter Sunday moming an outdoor SeN1 was held at Alexandra Park Walkerbum. Primary Schools.. undertook various activitEs in both Walkerburn Primar School and St Ronan's Primary School. Our Assistant Minister ft us on 2NJ June 2024 to undertake work in her own parish ersier. enan
Trustses Annual Report {contd 2. Youth Activities. Sunday Club and Crèche faciltties were available during Sunday moming worship. The Minister was involved in School chaplaincy work in Walkerbum and St Ronan's Primary Schools. 3. FellowshlpEducationaUSpiritual. The Church Prayer Group met on a monthly basis. An Alpha course commenced in January. This was followed by a study of the book of Galatians which in turn was followed by the course Frurtfullness on the Frontline. An Advent Bible Study was held on 11 th December. The Guild met on a regular basis and enjoyed fellowship. 4. SociallFollow8hip. Tea and Chat was held on the first and third Thursday mornings of the month 1 Oam- 11am. This was open to anyone in the communty to attend. Monthly church lunches continued throughout the year except during summer holiday time.. A Baby Group used the Hall of Friendship every Tuesday gam-11 am. There was always a church member on duty to open up the building and stay with the group whilst they were in the building. Du8 to the many problems facing people. a Warm Wednesday meeting tcok place in the Hall of Friendship every two weeks where folks could be wam, enjoy fellowship, watch cooking demonstrations, have lunch and also make use of our intemet connections. Folks were encouraged to stay for a lime of fellowship with teas and coffees seNed after all church services, 5. Mu85c. layed the organ at the monthly Traquair servic IL. argan oi some of the hymns at Innerleithen Chuich. A ch played up was fomied arKI occasionally play during worship. All olher music at Innerleithen and at Walkerburn Public Hall was from music on YouTube. St Ronan's Silver Band and Tweedvale Pipe Band also played on some occasions. 6. Pastoral Care. The rnajorty of Ekders had pastoral re8ponsibilty for a district within the Parish. Ouf Fellowship and Care Team consmlered the needs of folks in the congregation. At Christmas a card wa8 sent to those bereaved during the year as V11 as an invitation to the Lives to Remember 5ervice- held annually in Demt)er. Flo%ver Ministry - every Sunday flowers yre deliveied to the sick, the bereaved and the housebound, or as a mean5 of saying thank you or to lebrate a joyful event. Home Communion was offered to anyone requesting rt. The Minister visited Borders General Hospital and Hay lodge Hospital. We encouraged members to let the Minister know when they or family members were admrtled to hosprtal. It also help to know when peq)le retumed home from a time in hosprtal. Innerleithen Guikl dKJ a great job in supporting their wrnt[S wherever they lived in the Parish.
Tntee3 Annual Roport Icontd) 7. Publications. Notices about sendi were published weekly and distributed online to approximately 144 email addresses. As V¥EII as church intimations being available online, a monthly nev4s-sheel with all upcoming SeNiS and events was available for collection in church. The Church Magazine was published quarterly and distnbuted to every church member. The work of the edrtorial team. printers and distributors Was greatly appreciated. There was arf active church websile and Facebook page as well as an Instagram account. Achiovom•nts and Porforniance. Every Sunday over 80 people regularly attended VrshiP in Innerfeithen Church. These services were also viewed online by 65 households weekly. Monthly Thursday afternoon services in Traquair Kirk attracted 20 people. The monthly Sunday afternoon service held in Walkert)urn Public Hall had 16 people in attendance. The monthly church lunches held in The Hall of FrndshIp of Innerleithen Church was supported by 40 people. By year end there were 144 households rlying all YklY communications online. A monthly news sheet listing all services and activities was printed for those folks not on the intemet. A monthly prayer meeting was held in Innprlpilhen Church In November, a team led by commence an Alpha course in Ja ndertook planning io Alongside residents of Cardrona. a monthly lunch hekj in the Village Hall had 40 to 50 people attending on a regular basis. Over the year Ihe congregation supported many other chartties: Poppy Scotland, Christian Aid, Peeblesshire Food Bank, St Catherine's Homeless Project, ThorKlwe Partnership, Galashiels Family Centre. Samara's Aid. Tweedvale Pipe Band and St Ronan's Silver Band. Congratulations were due to everyone who got behind these prqects. Due to the impact of inflatson on household budgets a V+arm Wednesday group was open to member8 of the community. held every 2nd Wednesday in the Hall of Friendship and the Meeting Room. Folks could be wam. enjoy fellowship, watch cooking demonstrations, have lunch and also make use of our intemet connections. There was no monetsry charge for anyone attending these meetings. We provided a safe place for parents to bring along very small babies every Tuesday moming to enjoy a coffee and a chat. Members of the congregation have also donated nappies to anyone attending this group that rnight be Struggling with the cost of buying disposable nappies. During 2024 we were pleased lo welcome many groups and organisations that used our church premises.. Craft Group, Sew and Sews. various singing groups. Community Cafe from Peeblesshire Foodbank. Food Hugs from Vvalkerburn. coffee mornings in aid of various organisations and the Royal Voluntary Se1. The R.V.S. used the Hall of Friendship 2 days a week providing lunch, fun and fellowship for elderly folk in the communty. All groups reported that they found the church to be welcoming and vRre pthsed to use the building.
Trustees Annual Report (contd) FINANCIAL REVIEW Unrestricted Funds Our income increased by 2.3% and our expenditure increased by 42%, which had an overall effect of increasing the unrestricted funds by some £6.097. There was an increase in use of premises income up by £5.065. There was decrease in donation income of £5,355 on last year. There VRS a huge increase in heat and li9ht costs in expenditure up by 77% on last year. Restricted Fund8 Restricted funds have decreased by £10.032 in the year. Total funds have decreased by £3,93fj on last year. ITW Church Malavii Fund ITW Malawi Fund is used to support a variety of projects in Thondwe Malawi. The money is raised through fundraising events within the church and the wider communty. We also have generous donations from congregation and community rnembers. We benefrt a lot from the work of IWT Rotary Club, which also includes the South of Scotland Clubs and overseas clubs including USA, Singapore, Europe. We work directly with the Thond CCAP Church and their Twinning Committee. We communicate frequently mainly by WhatsApp (usually daily) and also try to get members to visrt Thondwe On a year. Together v build a 'next year, plan and also a '3-year plan,. We then discuss priorities and endeavour to find new and novel Wdys of raising the money needed. Our aim is to build a lasting friendship, while improving health. education and living conditions, alongside improving our shared understanding of our lives and faith, which we always wish to expand. The congregation and Kirk Session also re1ve updates on the ongoing work, fundraising and projects. hurch Outreach Fund An ITW Church Outreach Fund, estsblished in 2021, continues to be sucSsful in attracting grant funding to run free 'Meet & Make, Craft Classes for senior crtizens at various Iccations in the Parish. Income derives entirely from Sussful grant funding applications. Inv•8tment Policy Church of Scotland Investors Trust hold investments on our behaff (General Fund, Parish Mission & Outreach Fund. Organ & Caprtal Equipment Fund, Peter Lats'mer Bequest). ITW Church has no plans to purchase further investments. A breakdown is given on page 13 Risk Managèment The Trustees are pleased to note that our current reserves comply with the Reserves Policy.
Annual Trustees Report (contd) Fund held by General Trustses The amount in the Consolidated Fabric Fund al 31 Dernber 2024 was £858.47 (2023.. £819.27). RepArvo8 Policy It is the Trustees, policy to hold reserves in the General Fund of approximately 6 months, expendrture. Current unrestricted reserves in the General Fund are £56.370 vthich comply with the Reserves Policy. National Stipend Fund Contribution All Church of Scotland congregations contribute to the National Stipend Fund which bears the costs of all ministers, stipends and employer's contributions for national insurance. pension and housing and loan furKI. The minimum stipend for a minister is £31.642: maximum stipend in 5th and subsequent years of Servi is £38.884. STRUCTURE, GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT Governing Document The Church is administered in accordance with the tenns of the Deed of Constitution (Unitary Form). Recruitm•nt and Appolntmènt of Tru8tO08 Members of the Kirk Se&8ion are the Chanty Trustees. The Kirk Session members are the elders of the church and are chosen from those members of the church who are considered to have the appropriate gifts and skills. Note.. retired Elders are not tmstees. Organisational Struclmre The Kirk Session which meets at least 5 times a year. is resporBible for spiritual affairs within the church and is moderated by the Minister. While certain financial planning, property rna1ntenan arKI risk assessment work is carried out by the FinancelFabric Team on behalf of the Kirk Session, all material recommendations made by the Team required the approval of the Kirk Session.

RESPONSIBILITIES The members of the Kirk Session must prepare financial statement which give sufficient detail to enable an appreciation of the transactions of the Church during the financial year. TIE members of the Kirk Session are responsible for keeping proper accounting records, vthich. on request. must fleet the financial position of the Church al that lime. This must be done to ensure the financial statements comply with Charities and Trustee Investment {Scotland) Act 2005, the Charities ACCnts (Scotland) Regulations 2006 and the Regulations Anent Congregational Finance approve(I by the General Assembly of the Church of So)tland in 2007. They are also responsible for safeguarding the assets of the Church and must take reasonable steps for prevention andlor detection of fraud and other irregularities. TRUSTEE REMUNERATION AND RELATED PARTY TRANSACTIONS During the yèar Council Tax of £2.986 was pairj in respect of the Mans8 occupied by the Minister. During the year three Twstees reIVed panent as follows: eceived £1,112 for travel, telephone & broadband expenses. received £480 for travel expenses. hurch Administrator r1Ved a salary of £1,560. No other Trustee received any Muneratn or reimbursement of expenses during the year. No Trustee or person related to a Trustee had any personal interest in any contract or transaction entered into by the charrty during the year. During the year a total of approximately £16,588 {2023 £17.620) was recorded as being donated to the congregation by rts Trustees. The majorrty of these amounts were gfft aided and so the charity also benefitted from the corresponding tax Covered. In addition to the recorded monetary donations the Church benefttted greatly from time donated by its members, including the Finance, Gift Aid and Prcpety Conveners. 17
