The Wairds Park land was gifted to the Parish of Benholm and Johnshaven in 1923 by Miss Anna Scott of Brotherton Estates. Wairds Park Committee. a group of up to 15 volunteers from the local community. were charged with, among other things, promoting the well-being of the residents of the parish by providing a meeting place and facilities for recreation and to foster a community spirit. Since then, the Park has enjoyed improvement and growth, and is now also widely acknowledged as a clean and modern camping and caravan site bringing visitors to the village. The main income for Wairds Park is generated from the caravan park. Additional income is generated form the recreational facilities, both indoor and outdoor. These include the playpark, the football pitch, changing rooms, clubroom, multi-function sports courts, putting green and bowling green. This income is fed back into the park to maintain and improve the facilities.
