Governing Document
The Society of Friends of Dunblane Cathedral was founded in 1930 as a charitable unincorporated association and the objects and provisions for governance are set out in the constitution, last revised in 2007. The management of the society rests with the Executive Committee those individuals elected by Council. Members of Council are elected by members of the society, with five appointed by the Kirk Session.
Charitable Purposes
Paragraph II of the constitution, the objects clause, sets out the charitable objects of the society, which might be described as the advancement of the understanding, promotion, safeguarding, and adomment of Dunblane Cathedral, the archaeology, craftsmanship and arts intrinsic, and environs. The objects clause is reproduced in full in the annual Journal. The Trustees are grateful for Legacies to help with these purposes.
Activities and Achievements
The society owns, insures and maintainsa listed property to the south ofDunblane Cathedral; Dunblane Museum, a charity, is atenant, the rest of the space being let, all to gain income. The substantial cost of limewashing the property will be required in 2026. The Trustees would like record with gratitude the legacy of £1,000 from the estateoff who became a life member in 1996, and to thank individual donors for their donations. And also the following trusts for their support towards this work: Stafford Trust £3,250, Garfield Weston Foundation £15,000 and Murdoch Forrest Charitable Trust £5,000.
The society publishes an annual Journal which, among other items, contains articles about the history and decoration of the Cathedral and surroundings. Volunteers from the society, during the summer, provide tours of the Cathedral, and separately, the graveyard,
The society has worked with Historic Environment Scotland to create an information board highlighting the society's contributions to the Cathedral building. In cooperation with Dunblane Museum, it is collating material about the society held in the Museum and elsewhere with a view to creating an archive of the society and research commissioned by it.
After much research by volunteers, the society published a booklet on “The Saving ofKirk Street” and this led to an exhibition in the Museum on the subject. Also achieved was a booklet on the graveyard, a booklet on the stained glass windows of the Cathedral, and a more substantial book about them. All are available for purchase. The society has refurbished the millennium garden instituted 25 years ago, and is refurbishing the Cathedral noticeboard at the entrance.
Trustees’ remuneration and expenses, and Governance
The Trustees did not receive any remuneration or expenses during the year.
Reserves
The Executive, with input from Council, endeavours to maintain reserves to enable the society to maintain its listed properties and undertake other projects to fulfil its objcctives.

the audit requirement of Regulation 10(1)(d) of the 2006 Regulations does not apply. It is my

responsibility to examine the accounts as required under section 44(1)(c) of the 2005 Act and to state whether particular matters have come to my attention.

Basis of Independent Examiner’s Statement

My examination is carried out in accordance with Regulation 11 of the Regulations 2006. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeks explanations from the trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit and, consequently, I do not express an audit opinion on the view given by the accounts.
