2024-2025 East Broadway Trustees Report
April 2024
After the success of The Little Mermaid Jr in February the year continued with rehearsals for ‘Children of the Revolution’. A concert which gave the young people the chance to stand up and tell us all the things that annoy them in the world, from homework to homophobia. We had 13 young people take part. With rehearsals underway the income was from project fees and outgoings minimal just on our office subscriptions such as Canva and printer ink.
May 2024
In May as the concert got closer we spent some money on ribbons for the cast to wear along with their blacks and had more income from fees.
June 2024
June saw the concert and as it took place on the last day of the month most of the payments for it both income and expenditure appear on the July statement. We did pay for Jeremy Hoy (Drums) and Photography (Mellisa Gordon) at £150 each on the day of the concert
July 2024
A payment of £536 was made by Bright Umbrella Co. for our ticket sales on the concert and £767 was spent on the technical aspect of the concert. We were disappointed by our ticket sales at the time but undeterred we carried on in our Summer Project Peter Pan: The Musical. For this we had 16 young people take part. We spent money on props, set and costume in July to prepare for the shows.
August 2024
Show week of Peter Pan commenced and therefore most of our income and expenditure is logged in August, we required a full band which cost £1300 and had ticket sales of £2340. This
show was a great success so found us wanting to get booked for the following year. We spent £495 on Licening Matilda Jr for summer 2025.
September 2024
September saw the start of Annie Jr rehearsals. We had 32 young people take part in the show. September- December saw income from fees and expenditure minimal on essentials.
October 2024
In October we celebrated Halloween with a fancy dress rehearsal, we offered a £20 voucher for the best dressed which went to Ruby Steed who dressed as the East Broadway Star.
November 2024
Our annual insurance payment was taken.
December 2024
In December we had a meeting to discuss what our next shows should be and how the next year should look. We acquired the rights for Joseph and The Amazing Technicolor DreamCoat and Guys and Dolls.
January 2025
Annie jr rehearsals continued and as we approach the show in February some outgoing are on props and set. We received a donation of old costumes from Belvoir Players costume department which allowed us to costume most of the orphans from our own stock rather than buying or renting. We did spend money on wigs for some of the principal characters as we felt it added to the production and that they could be hired out in time.
February 2025
February saw production week for Annie Jr at the end of the project some of the team received payment for the work carried out, this was invoiced and totaled £1300. We made £4893 in ticket sales, our highest so far. In february we saw an opportunity for a rehearsal and office space, at a price within our budget. We went to view the property then had a committee meeting to decide whether it was something we should go ahead with. The committee voted and it was agreed.
March 2025
In March we began rehearsals for the ‘Welcome to the 60s’ ‘ concert which will be performed in the Grand Opera House Studio in June. We had conversations with the property management Fraizer and Kidd after back and forth on contracts it was agreed that East Broadway would take over the lease of Suite 4 179-187 Albertbridge Road.
April 2025
On the 1st April we received the keys to the property, we have spent around £200 on supplies but most things we either already owned or received as donations to kit out the space. We had our official opening on the 23rd April with some of our young people performing, the event was attended by friends, family and supporters . April also saw our first booking in the East
Broadway Hub by St Agnes Choral Society using it for a rehearsal. We hope this will encourage future bookings by them, we are promoting our room hire, prop and costume hire via social media. We have had Annie props and costumes hired out this month and received a generous donation of clothes for costumes by a friend. In April we officially added Amy Smith to the team as our head of dance, she has been with us since choreographing Peter Pan: The Musical and has gone above and beyond in her efforts to help the charity thrive.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has been involved this past year, from helping with costumes, as stage hands, chaperones, our band, our performers and their families. The fantastic team, Alex, Amy Phyllis and Chloe I really appreciate all that you do.
