The Trustees’ present their Annual Report and Statement of Receipts and Payments and Assets and Liabilities for Strabane Primary School PTFA for the year ended 31 August 2025.
Objectives
The charitable purpose of Strabane Primary School PTFA is the advancement of education. The charity’s beneficiaries are children and young people, parents and teachers and all associated with the administration of the school.
Achievements, Performance and Public Benefit
Throughout this financial year, Strabane Primary School PTFA has raised funds through a variety of events, such as the annual summer fair, school pantomime, and discos. The proceeds have been used to support the school in several ways, including the purchase of IT equipment, contributing to the subscription costs of online educational programmes, providing prizes and rewards for pupils, and assisting with expenses related to sporting activities.
Financial Review
Fundraising activities continue to be the primary source of income for the charity. For the financial year ending 31 August 2025, the total income amounted to £20,071, slightly down from £20,634 in the previous period. Total expenditure for the year was £9,973, showing a decrease from £13,024 in the prior period.
Going Concern
The Trustees’ have reviewed the budgets for the year ahead and are satisfied that there are adequate funds in place to ensure that Strabane Primary School PTFA can continue its activities and the financial statements can be signed off as a going concern.
Public Benefit Statement
Strabane Primary School PTFA has given careful consideration to the Charity Commission for Northern Ireland’s guidance on public benefit to ensure that the activities entered into during the period have helped to achieve the PTFA’s objectives, as well as providing public benefits which are stated below:
- Improved communication and understanding
The PTFA aims to help develop understanding between parents, teachers, and all associated with the administration of the school. This helps to foster and improve communication and collaboration between these groups, which helps create a more supportive and effective learning environment for our students.

- Educational support
The PTFA aims to encourage activities of all kinds to promote the education and welfare of all children attending the school. This includes providing resources and support for educational programs, extracurricular activities, and other initiatives that enhance the learning experience for students.
- Parental education
The PTFA aims to help parents understand current trends in the teaching and development of children. This should lead to more informed and engaged parents who are better equipped to support their children's learning and development.
- Teacher-parent relationships
The PTFA aims to enable teachers to establish a closer relationship with parents and help them have a better understanding of the children in their charge. This should lead to more effective collaboration between teachers and parents, which should benefit student learning and well-being.
- Awareness of educational opportunities
The PTFA aims to give parents a wider knowledge of the educational provision made nationally and locally and point out the opportunities for further education which are available to their children. This could help to ensure that parents are aware of the resources and opportunities available to support their children's education and future prospects.
- Financial and other support for the school
Our PTFA aims to assist the school through financial and other help. This includes fundraising, volunteering, or providing other forms of support to help the school meet its educational and operational needs. The Principal has the ultimate decision on all financial matters.
The Trustees wish to acknowledge their deep appreciation of those who give freely of their time by serving on the committee and helping with the organisation of activities throughout the year.

Statement of Trustee Responsibilities
The Trustees are responsible for preparing the annual report and the financial statements in accordance with applicable law and generally accepted accounting practice.
As the charity’s total income does not exceed £250,000, the Trustees have elected under Section 64(3) of the Charities Act (Northern Ireland) 2008 to prepare a receipts and payment account and a statement of assets and liabilities.
The Trustees are responsible for keeping adequate accounting records that are sufficient to show and explain the transactions and disclose with reasonable accuracy at any time its financial position. They are also responsible for safeguarding the assets and hence for taking reasonable steps for the prevention and detection of fraud and other irregularities.

Independent Examiners Report to the Trustees of Strabane Primary School PTFA
I report on the financial statements of the charity for the year ended 31 August 2025, which comprise the statement of financial activities (Receipts and Payments Account), statement of assets and liabilities and the related notes.
Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner
As the charity's trustees you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with Section 64(3) of the Charities Act (Northern Ireland) 2008. It is my responsibility to:

examine the accounts under section 65 of the Charities Act;

to follow the procedures laid down in the general Directions given by the Charity Commission for Northern Ireland under section 65(9)(b) of the Charities Act; and
-
to state whether particular matters have come to my attention.
Basis of independent examiner's report
I have examined your charity accounts as required under section 65 of the Charities Act and my examination was carried out in accordance with the general Directions given by the Charity Commission for Northern Ireland under section 65(9)(b) of the Charities Act. The examination included a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also included consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from the trustees concerning any such matters.
My role is to state whether any material matters have come to my attention giving me cause to believe:

That accounting records were not kept in accordance with section 63 of the Charities Act

That the accounts do not accord with those accounting records

That the accounts do not comply with the accounting requirements of the Charities Act

That there is further information needed for a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
I have completed my examination and have no concerns in respect of the matters (1) to (4) listed above and, in connection with following the Directions of the Charity Commission for Northern Ireland, I have found no matters that require drawing to your attention.

1. Accounting Policies
Basis of Financial Statements
As the total income of the charity is less than £250,000 the PTFA have elected in accordance with the provisions in The Charities (Accounts and Reports Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2015 to prepare its accounts on a receipts and payments basis.
Fund Accounting
Restricted funds comprise revenue donations or grants for a specific activity intended by the donor.
Unrestricted funds are income funds which are to be spent on the charity’s general purposes. Designated funds are general funds set aside by the charity for use in the future.
2. Trustees’ emoluments
All Trustees give their service on a voluntary basis. No remuneration is paid.
