The Magill Family Charitable Trust (MFCT) was established by a trust deed on 12 September 2022 to embody the | charitableCommissionvisionfor Northernand valuIr **e** slandof(CCNI)David onand 20JoanJanuaryMagill. 2023. The Trust received charitable status from the Charity ; MFCT supports principally local charitable activities aimed at reducing inequality, improving health and quality of life, and promoting reconciliation. It operates exclusively as a grant-making charity, funded by donations from the : Magill Family. The Trust is proactive in identifying projects and organisations aligned with its objectives and does not accept open funding applications. 

All funding partners are selected for their capacity to deliver meaningful outcomes. The Trust conducts written and face-to-face evaluations with partners and, where appropriate, meets directly with beneficiaries to ensure its funding achieves maximum impact. 

The MFCT is a member of the Funders Forum for NI and also engages in discussions with other family charitable trusts to help to inform future planning. This report covers a 12 month period 1 April 2024 to 31 March 2025 and is the first annual report to the CCNI covering the first full 12 month period of our Trust's operation. The MFCT made grants ranging from £460 to £25,000 totalling £273,603 (2024: £94,705) in this period providing assistance to a total of 28 organisations. 

## OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES 

## Charitable Objects 

## The charity's activities revolve around five main areas: 

~ The prevention and relief of poverty in Northern Ireland 

- The assistance in the treatment and care of persons in Northern Ireland suffering from mental or physical illness - The advancement of conflict resolution, peace, and reconciliation, good community relations, and the promotion of religious harmony 

- The promotion of social inclusion of people in Northern Ireland for public benefit 

- The promotion of participation in healthy recreation, particularly by the advancement of amateur sport in Northern Ireland 

## Significant activities 

During this period, the Trustees focused on: 

- Continued establishment and piloting application and decision-making procedures (proactive approach with a research-based process) 

The Trust made small grants totalling £273,603 (2024: £94,705) during this period. These grants are detailed under each relevant charitable object. 

## Public benefit 

| In setting objectives and planning charitable work, the Trustees adhered to the guidance issued by the Charity | Commission for Northern Ireland under section 4(b) of the Charities Act (Northern Ireland) 2008, known as the public benefit requirement statutory guidance. | | |

Charitable activities
Prevention or Relief of Poverty

essential resources and advice.

food, clothing, everyday essentials and assistance with household bills.
o Footprints Womeii's Cenli'e. a eliarlty pi'ovidit)g crisis intervention, trainllig, support, development, advice and
advocacy for women, where ￿ndIng supported essential skills thaining in maths and Eiiglish and additional ci'isis
suppoit over tlie Cluislmas period.
o Concern, which woi'ks to address extrenie povety and bl'ing about lasting change to the lives, livelihoods and
coIilliiunities of people living in the most difficult cii'cumstances.
o Lariie Baby Bank. in partneiship with Honie Stal'l East Antrim, a volunteer-nin service suppoi'ling families facing
financial l)ardship or crisis through the provision of good-quality second-hand clothing and essential items, including
nappies and baby equipment.
Assistance of Those Sufierlng from Mental or Physical Illness
During the year Il)e chai'ity awai'ded gi'ants totalling approximately £66,600 in siippoi'¢ of individiials suffering fi'oni
mental or physical illncss. Grants supported oi'ganisalions providing mental healtli services, palliative and end-of-life
care. i'ehabilitation, and emergency health services.
Grants were made lo the following charities:
o Marie Curie. supporting a resexi'ch niapping exei'cise into palliative heart failure seivices in Noithern Ireland.
o Lighthouse, which works lo prevent suicide and self-l)arm and supports fainilies bereaved by suicide.
o Pai'licipalion and Il)e Pi'aclice of Rights (PPR), thiough the New Script for Mental Health campaign, which seeks
ijiiproved mental liealth scivices and provides peei. support.
o West Well Being, wl)ich pi'ovides counselling, advocacy, befi'iending, and education progi?mmes for people in
mental or emotional distress.
o Macular Society (Noriliern Ireland), wliicli fiinds researcli and provides support lo tlios¢ expei'iencing siglit loss.
Northei'n Irelaiid Chest Healt and Sli'oke Associatioii, fuiiding a pilot sh'oke I'ehabilitalion programme iii
Newtownabbey.
o Life and Time Cal'e (Newry), pioviding community-based end-of-life servtces in the home.

o Foyle Hospice, providiiig specialist palliative care.
o Bl'ake, supporting victims of road death and injuiy and piomoting road safety education.
Advancement of Conllict Resolution, Peace, and Reconeiliation

Four Comers Festival, which encourages engagement across Belfast through innovative events promoting new
perspectives and relalionsliips.
Promotion of Social Inclusion
During tlie year tlie cliarity awarded grants lolalling approximately £99,600 in support of social inclusffion. Grants
supported organisations working with disadvantaged groups, childi'en and young people, I.e￿geeS, and individuals
facing social exclusion.

o Ardoyne Youth Club, supporting summer youth and volunteei'ing progj'ammes.
o Clonard Monastery Youtli Club, providing di'op-in services and youlli developinent.
o Childi'en's Law Centre, using legal avenues to support Vlllnerable children.
o RNIB _ Teclinology foi. Life, supporting people with siglit loss to access infomiation and opportunities.
o Onwards and Upwards Training (An Droichead), delivering technical ediicalion, work training, and mentoring for
young people.
o Ballygally Conmiunity Developinent Association, fiindiiig Ilie Ballygally Community Choir.
Promotion of Healthy Recreadon and Amateur Sport
During the year the charity awarded grants totalling approximately £14,000 to promote participation in sport and
liealtliy i'eci'eatkon.
Grants were niade to the following cliarilies:
o Mary Peters Tiusl, providing coaching qualifications and programmes for young at])leles, including those with
disabilities.
o Northern li'eland Chest Heart and Stroke Association, sUPPOrting the development of online resource5 and a pilot

Basis of preparing the financial statements
The financial statements of the charity, which is a public benefit entity undei. FRS 102, have been prepai'ed in
accordaiice witli the Charlties SORP (FRS 102) 'Accounting and Reporting by Cliarities.. Sialement of
Recommended Practice applicable lo charities pi'eparing their accouiits in accordance with the Fiiiancial
