Burren Men’s Shed – Annual Report 2024
purposes of the charity, these are:
To provide a welcoming venue for men to talk and connect with others while participating in group and / or individual projects. Our shed provides this safe, warm welcoming space to make social and community connections and a fully equipped workshop, oering our members opportunities to create items and projects together.
To reduce isolation and increase social networks of men in Burren and the surrounding local areas. Our group reach out further than the local area, including men from neighbouring towns and villages to join in all our activities. We also use the network of sheds to include men from further afield in our workshops and trips.
To provide opportunity for skills development, capacity building and learning of men in the area. Working with other sheds and community facilitators enables us to develop our skills and capacity. Participating in training then cascading this learning throughout the group helps build capacity among our members. Working on projects together is an ideal way of sharing knowledge and skills, learning from one another builds confidence and helps us develop as a strong team.
To advance the health and well-being of men in Burren and the surrounding local areas. Working with our local Health and Social Care Trust helps us to promote current initiatives, e.g. Take 5 ways to well-being & Move more Live more, connects us with our health promotion team which benefits health and wellbeing among our members.
We raise funds, receive grants and donations, applying funds to carry out the work of the charity. Our group co-operate with and support other charities with similar charitable purposes, and we do anything which is lawful and necessary to achieve the charity’s purposes.
2024 was a busy year for our shed, we undertook community projects and took trips across the region.
Collectively we worked hard on developing our group, our shed and our shed garden, we expanded our membership, we organised courses and classes and enjoyed some social activities too. All for the benefit of men in our rural community. Our activities included diverse work that focused on developing our Shed, reducing isolation of rural men, promoting better mental and physical health, and benefiting our local environment.
