Carrickfergus Academy PTFA Trustees Report for the year 2022/23
Carrickfergus Academy PTFA is made up of a membership of both Parents and Teachers who give of their time on a voluntary basis and work collectively to raise funds to enable the school to purchase much needed equipment and resources. These resources are implemented to benefit each pupil within the school. The PTFA plays an important role in fostering positive links between parents, school staff and the wider local community. The Charity meets in the staffroom of the Junior Campus at Carrickfergus Academy, or on occasion remotely online. The Charity is governed by their Constitution (agreed with PTA UK and Charity Commission NI) and all members of Committee are appointed during the Annual AGM. Positions of Chairperson, Secretary, and Treasurer are also appointed at that meeting. The Committee is made up of parents and teachers some of whom also act as Trustees for the Charity.
At the beginning of the 2022/23 school year the PTFA was reconstituted in line with the regulations of the Charity Commission. Following a long process, we were delighted to have our charitable status verified. In accordance with this a new independent back account has been set up. The Joint Chairs and treasurer of the PTFA are card holders for this. A new constitution has been adopted, and trustees appointed for the charity. These important changes were ratified at the AGM in September 2022.
Unfortunately, our main fundraising effort, the Christmas Fair, had to be cancelled at short notice due to the tragic sudden death of an Academy Pupil. Through the sale of Christmas Raffle tickets, decorations and associated activities £338 was raised.
The PTFA was not able to convene as much as we would have hoped during the year due to staff and parent illness and bereavement. The PTFA did however support the P7 Indication Evening in June serving tea and coffee. There was also a recruitment drive and the names of 16 new potential members were noted.
Approaches for funding were made to the PTFA for support with the Sixth Form China Trip and it was agreed that a donation of £100 would be made.
Thanks are due to all of the members of the PTA committee for their support and attendance at meetings during the year, and to the families who supported events to generate income for all of our children to benefit from.
The balance of the PTFA account of 13[th] September 2023 was 458.36
