("BHSF"l is to advance the education of the pupils attending Ballyclare High School {BH5} through enhancing their opportunities, educational outcomes and life chances in line with the schfy)Vs wider vision of 'developing lifelong learners in carlng creative communitl. The BHSF aims to create an environment in whith relationships with alumni and friends of BHS can be developed and cultivated on a Mu￿31￿ beneficial basis and in so doing engender opportunities to support and advance the education of the pupils attending BHS. BHS ('the school'l is a c(Feducation31 non-denominational grammar school located in Ballyclare, Northern Ireland. It is a controlled school operating under the management of a suitably appointed Board of Governor5 which includes representatives from Department for Education INII. the Education Authority. parents and teachers. There are cl.250 pupils attending the school and The Education Authority for Northern Ireland is the employing authority. STRUCTURE AND MANAGEMEKr "BHSF" has been establlshed as a company limited by Euarantee IN16852841 and as a registered charity with Charity Commission for Northern Ireland (NIC108774). Whilst BHSF operates as a separate legal entity from the school, its sole object is the advancement of the education of the pupils attending BHS. BHSF has a strong governance framework in place ¢)ver its purpose and operation including the appolntment of a board of directors, all of vthom are passionate about and have long-seated connertions with BHS. Each of the dirertors is highly committed to the aims of the Foundation and bring a wealth of experience and professionalism to the role. VISION & STRATEGY The Board of Govemors of the school has a strategy to develop better connections With alumni and friends of the school wtth the vision of maintaining mutually beneficial lifelong relationships with past pupils, parents and friends. The creation of the BHSF is a key aspect of thss Strate￿ estsblishing a vehicle to create opportunitie5 to enhance engagement and involvement with alumni. parents and friends in both school attivities and through fundraising initiatives. ANNUAL REPORT (convd) AcrivrriES AND OBJEcnvES BHSF was registered as a company limtted by guarantee on 25 January 2022 and as a charity with the Charity Commission for Northern Ireland on 17thAugust 2022. BH5F was domiant until its formal launch in Ortober 2022. These accounts to September 2025 represent its third year of operation. Launch Campaign The Brlght Future5 Campaign aims to raise £3(K).lJ)O to support two overarching are35 of need: £150,000 towards an Opportunities Fund aimed at improving educational, physical and creative opportunities at the school through the investment in leaming resources, sport and active recreation, music and the arts. £150,000 towards a Support Fund aimed at enh3ncin8 SUPPOrt towards health and wellbeing services and in providing spaces in which pupils can grow and thrive. Support for the Foundation The Foundation has established various streams by which support can be provided most notably; By becoming a 'Founding Memberf and making a large donation over the course of the launch period- Through the making of regular or one-off donations to the launch fund for any other purpose a5 so specified; or Through organising or supporting specific fundraising attivitie5 such as the Celebration of Rugby Gala Ball which commemorated the 50th anniversary of winning The Schools, Cup and the love and passion that rugby over the years. Fundraising events are a wonderful example of the benefits of the Foundation in practice, providing opportunities to celebrate and engage with friends and alumni and in so doing create opportunities to support the school and its pupils oftoday. The Foundation welcomes the incredibly posfcive feedb3ck that has been received by the school from its pupils and parents alike. In addition. the Foundation is now the established vehicle by whith Sthool Funds are received by the school annually. Thi5 creates an opportunÉty for parents to boost their annual donations to the school by a further 25% from the HMRC via gift aid. The Foundation then release5 these funds to the sch¢)ols to enable it to provide the range of additional SeTh[￿s which the School Fund is targeted with delivering each year. The Foundation has recently launched a new monthly social media campaign celebrating alumni success around the World in a range of very diverse career paths and is working on a range of activities aimed at engaging with Alumni, many of which were successfully delivered late 2025 and early 2026. Granting of Awards The Foundation welcomed completion of a sub5tsntial proportion of the £88k of funding 8ranted support in the previous year most notably the replenishment of resources in the library, refurbishment of IT centre, the 6th form common room and reception. The school is worknng closely with EA in respect to the remaining project involving the sthool canteen with a target to complete during school holidays at the end of the current year. The Foundation also launched a scheme in May 2025 whereby staff could make applications for funding for projects identified by them. Following an excellent response, a total of £62k of support wa5 granted across 18 projects covering a range of areas suth as teaching resources. health and wellbein& sports and the arts. Public Benefft The BHSF has been established to help raise funds, encourage a culture of philanthropy in the school community and issue grants to advance the education of the pupils attending BHS. The direct benefits which flow from the organisation'5 purpose include enhan￿d educational opportunities and improved life chan￿5 for pupils attending BHS. These benefits can be demonstrated through improved educational outcomes and opportunities. There is no harm arising from the Foundation's purpose. The benefiaaries are pupils attendin8 BHS..There is no private benefit flowing from the Foundation's purpose. The trustees confimi that they have complied with the requirements of sertion 4 of the Chartties Art 2008 to have due regard to the public benef￿ guidance published by The Charity Commission for Northern Ireland. ANNUAL REPORT {conVd) ACHIEVEMENfs AND PERFORMANCE/FINANaAL REVIEW Total Income of the Foundation for the year ended 30th September 2025 was £158,50212024: £138.7921 with expenditure during that period amounting to £168,774 {2024: £8Q.1331. Unrestricted Income principally relates to donations toward5 the Bright Future Campaign. the launch campaign of the Foundation. Restricted Income relates mainly to annual parental donations towards School Fund, together with any Eift aid to be recovered on such funds, knd to incorne received from a dorsor towards the position of Health & Wellbeing Ofricer in the school. Expenditure in the year principally relates to the release of restricted funds to the school In line with the purpose they were received, plus the release of the funds granted support under the Bright Futures Campaign in line with the expenditure actually incurred by the end of the 24125 financial year. RESERVES POUCY The policy of the trustees is not to accumulate reserves but to use reserves in the promotlon of the charitWs objectives. With regard to the Bright Futures Campaign the trustees targeted an initial 3-year fundraising period with funds being released once suitable applications have been received by the school in line with Award Policy agreed by the Trustees. Therefore tt would have been expected that reserves would have built-up across the initial years of the Foundation with awards then being made once the level of funds raised is better known and thereby projects can be prioritised appropriately. With regard to other fund5 received such as donations to the school fund and other specific donations made by donors. these will be released to the school in a timely mannerto serve the manner in which the donations were made. FUTURE PLANS With £150k of grant support already committed in respect to the Bright Futures Campaign. the Foundation looks forward to releasing funds to the school during the forthcoming year as these projects are progressed to completion. In addition p05t the year end we are delighted to be able to support a number of alumni engagement activities most notably the inaugural Business Breakfast event at Tughans prestigiou5 new offices in the Ewart building in Belfast in November 25, the Celebration of the Women of BHS event in the Titanic Building in De￿mber 25 and aur 2nd BHS in London gathering in January 26. All ofthese are excellent opportunities for connection and engagementwtth our Alumni in a range of different environments. STATEMENT OF TRUSTEE RESPONSIBILITIES The Trustee5 are responsible for preparing the annual report and the financial statements of the Foundation in accordance with applicable law and generally accepted accounting practice. The Trustees are responsible for keeping adequate accounting records that are sufficient to show and explain the Foundation's transactions and disclose with reasonable accuracy at any time its financial position. They are also resF)on5ible for safeguarding the assets of the Foundation and hence for taking reasonable steps for the prevention and detection of fraud and other irregularities.
