Trustees’ Annual Report
1 Nov 2022 to 31 Oct 2023
The charity Lisburn Advanced Motorcyclists (LAM) exists to improve road safety by training motorcyclists in advanced riding and by encouraging safe riding and driving.
During the reporting year, LAM has continued the training of 14 members and has seen 4 members qualify as Advanced Riders. This represents approximately 110 hours of Advanced Rider training provided by our volunteer trainers.
LAM continued to organise a regular calendar of rides for members, a total of 32 day rides on Saturdays and Sundays throughout the year, and a weekend event to tour in Galway and Mayo.
We have held a series of events to inform, support and encourage members. These range from social events to invited speakers on motorcycle topics and ‘meet the examiner’ evenings for our members under training.
We held an Open Day in May 2023 aimed at introducing the public to advanced riding and encouraging membership.
At the end of the financial year, LAM held reserves of £1,756, with liabilities of £580. The income during the year was £2011 and the expenditure £1045.
By training Advanced Riders and encouraging safe motorcycling, LAM has improved the safety of not only its members, but the safety of the general road-using public.
The trustees have regard to the requirement to justify private benefit. Any private benefit to members has been incidental to the public benefit.
The trustees have regard to the guidance of the Charity Commission for Northern Ireland on public benefit to ensure that the activities have helped to achieve the charity’s purposes and provide benefit to the beneficiaries.
LAM is affiliated to its parent body, The Institute of Advanced Motorists. The governing document for LAM is “IAM Roadsmart Group Affiliate Handbook”, March 2019. Trustees of LAM are appointed each year in November by an Annual General Meeting.
