Objectives and Activities

In setting our objectives and planning our activities for the year, the Trustees have given careful consideration to the Charity Commission for Northern Ireland’s public benefit requirement to ensure that the activities have helped to achieve the charity’s purposes and provide a benefit to the beneficiaries

The purpose of the PTA is to encourage parents and staff to work together to benefit the children at St Patrick’s College Maghera. This has been demonstrated through ongoing engagement between parents and school. We continue to seek to advance the education of pupils in the school with increased educational progress and attainment of pupils in the school and links built with the local community. This is demonstrated through pupils having access to resources, events, activities and links with the local community which are not available through direct school funding.

No harm arises from either purpose and the only beneficiaries of this charity are the children of the school.

Charity Structure and Management

Friends of St Patrick’s Parent Teacher Association is a registered charity with the Charity Commission for Northern Ireland under charity Number 108591. The PTA was set up with a formally adopted constitution outlining the objects and powers of the association.

We hold our Annual General meeting on an annual basis where some members may step down from their position and some new members will be nominated and elected.

Review of Activities, Achievements and Performance

In January 2023 the PTA was relaunched and a new Board of Trustees was established to reflect a new generation of young people and to reinvigorate the work of the PTA. A new logo and promotional regime began. During the year to 31[st] March 2025 we had two pizza nights for two different Y8 groups, one at Easter and one at Christmas. We held a summer fair to allow potential pupils to meet and engage with others while also opening the opportunity for fundraising for the PTA. We raised further funds and awareness by providing teas and treats at the College Craft Fair. We are currently looking into the costs of providing the College with a therapy dog and will continue to build up funds towards the cost of this.
