The Thomas Trust - Trustees, Report
1 April 2023 - 31 March 2024
1. Summary of Activities
During the year to 31 March 2024 The Thomas Trust continued its normal activity of making grants in line with its
objects, as outlined in the Declaration of Trust dated 12 October 1989, in particular the advan￿ment of the
Christian faith. To this end grants were made in January 2024 to Tearfund {Nl) (£2,000) and Good News for
Everyone! (£1,000).
The income of the Trust historically came from rental income relating to a 119th share of the property at Thomas
House, 14-16 James Street South, Belfast. Following the sale of Thomas House during the year to 31 March
2023, the net proceeds We￿ invested by Investec.
This investment, referred to as The Thomas Trust (Charitable) with reference number THOMA0617, is the
primary asset of the Trust. During the year a transfer of £2,300 was made from the investment account to the
bank account to enable the grants to be made.
The investment fund performed well during the year with a closing value of £138,461.
As the Trust's activities do not result in any liabilities it is not considered necessary to have a specific level of
reseNes. However, the Trustees will at all times retain a small amount of cash in its bank account to enable
unforeseen liabilities to be addressed or grants to be made at short noti￿.
2. Public Benefit
In undertaking the activities of the Trust during the year, the Tnjstees have had regard to the Commission's
Public benefit requirement statutory guidance.
To ensure the funds of the charity are used for the public benefit the Trustees have only made grants to other
registered charities. This approach ensures the funds are used for the public benefit and do not result in any
hann. In addition, grant making to other charities means there is no private benefit from the activities of the
charity-
