ANNUAL REPORT 1[st] January 2024-31[st] December 2024
Friends of Dromore High (Charity no. 108516)
Aim and purpose :
Friends of Dromore High endeavour to advance the education of pupils in the school, through supporting staff, parents and wider school community.
Objective and activities:
We aim to develop effective relationships between the staff, parents and others associated with the school and engaging in activities or providing facilities or equipment which support the school and advance the education of the pupils. Members assist with a wide variety of activities, such as assisting the school with events and supporting parents. Members offer their skills in the running of the charity and the activities we organise.
Key Achievements:
Members supported the school directly by volunteering at events, including Open Day, with members availing of the opportunity to chat with parents visiting the school and providing refreshments for all on the day. Spring Concert is always a well-attended busy evening with over 200 parents attending on the night, refreshments were supplied and served by members of the committee. A Graduation event was held for Year 10 students by the school with a BBQ ran in parallel for parents with members assisting with set-up and serving at the BBQ. A Farmers Market was held by the school in June 2024, through the support of donations a tombola provided an opportunity to raise funds. The now Annual Bus Trip to Kildare was organised for November and was enjoyed by all.
The Sixth Form common room was in need of redecoration, which was undertaken by the students. To support the students in their endeavours FoDH provided a donation to support the purchase of new seating. (PICTURE?)
A Chilli night was held as a fundraising event and also provided an opportunity for parents, teachers and the community to gather. Members of the committee, teachers and parents competed in a chilli cook-off with the best chilli on the night judged by all attendees. The event was supported by local businesses and a tombola provided an additional fundraising opportunity

The school obtained funding for an outdoor classroom. This came as a flat-pack and required assembly. Members gave up their time over a number of weekends to construct the classroom in the eco-garden. Following this another local charity Higher Ground worked alongside pupils planting flowers and shrubs in the garden. To assist with the works to the garden FoDH provided a short term loan to Higher Ground to get the project underway.

Finances :
The committee applied to HMRC to register for Gift Aid and are awaiting a response.
Future Plans:
Further fundraising events are planned including a Speed-Quiz and a Gala Ball. It is hoped that the Gala Ball will provide a platform to engage with former pupils and facilitate the formation of an Alumini Society.

The committee recognise that students are at the heart of the efforts of the group and are looking to engage directly with students. It is hoped that this engagement could be facilitated through School Prefects.
The school and the committee have recognised that areas of the school require some additional maintenance to facilitate a learning environment which would encourage students to achieve their potential. The committee will endeavour to assist in improving the learning environment for students.
The committee will continue to support the school at events throughout the year.
