A AGM REPORT 2024 – CURRCENT CHAIR UNA KELLY

I would like firstly to hand over to Robin Crouch our accountant to run though the previous year's figures before we continue with the report

. Robins Report. Read Below Report…

The following reports are concerning our progress since our last AGM in October 22

This report will show the fantastic work the committee has completed over the last 12 months. Which brought number l of its own challenges.

Predominantly the last 12 months were characterised by a great deal of ‘behind the scenes’ work to follow through a few issues around securing funding, for core Community involvement and growing our youth provisions and financial challenges. 2022 saw the establishment of the Current Community Committee and I congratulate all office holders, supporters and agencies who have supported us to this point.

A few committees’ members had ‘stepped up’ to take over the roles of governance due to challenges in abilities to safety and effectivity run the centre. We are very grateful to the professions, organisations and residents who continue to support the growth of this changing Committee. I am now pleased to make people aware that over the last year our committee has excelled in supporting the changing needs of CCA and enabling a safe and effective environment for all.

I want to particularly thank all our volunteers and staff, the amazing work they have done to keep CCA as a functioning entity who have responded magnificently to the challenges we had to face in the last financial year and continue to do so in this financial year. Of course, we could not run our centre without our wonderful, dedicated partners and service providers who help run our youth streams founders such as YMCA, Derry City Strabane Council, CFNI, Lottery Fund, WNP, John Moors, St Columbs Park House.

Our young people are flourishing with the much-needed youth provision we have through the YMCA. It has made an incredible impact on them and the community, empowering them to believe in themselves, giving them opportunities, confidence and people to rely on with a safe place to go. So, I'd like to thank Shannon Moore and Catriona Coyle and the dedicated youth team from the YMCA Ireland for making this such a success and look forward to working with them in the future to continue the amazing, good work.

The committee will also have the continued support of St Columb's Park House has helped us to empower and thrive, with training courses and team building. Hopefully with a representative from each street, we can help everyone equally with any support needed and be sure no one is feeling left out or missing.

With a massive thanks to John Moors Foundations and the Awards for all we had secured funding for core over the past 2 years, which has now ended.

There has numerous amounts of project’s which have been in pipeline for some time and have now become reality,

With the launch of the NEW Dare to Dream project now under way and 2 new worker one a resident from Currynierin Samatha Polland and Sarah Jane from Tullyally who are working together with a R.A.G + A.Y.E group to create programmes within the two areas. These will be run out of both centres. but we will need Community involvement in big numbers to fulfil our objectives for these courses and will give residents a great opportunity to have their say in what they want to see happing in the Community

We are very lucky to have an active group of Senior Citizens and a women's group who support the centre and with having these groups take part in almost all actives we run we were able to submit and secure a funding application for a project for them and other residents which will include some programs and monthly lunch/diner clubs.

The foot fall coming through the centre has become more important than ever and we need to show a need for the centre in the area. These figures and statistics will show the outcomes for us to continue the work we are doing and better the capabilities of the centre...

we have other applications pending for much more programs that we feel the area needs.

All this information gave us the great foundation for a long-awaited big lottery application, which Gretta and I have been working tireless on over the past few months, so that Currynierin Community Association will be stronger than ever... today we have got the news it has passed the 2[nd] stage, and without getting too excited, as we have one more hurdle to go!

We will know in December, BUT as we all known only to well it may be unsuccessful iIF its turned down we will try again.

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Gretta for all their hard work and dedication she has been doing for the centre behind the scenes and in estate over the last number of years, we are happy to have someone who is dedicated to the residents and the well-being of not only the youth but all residents.

We would like to ask anyone who would like to volunteer to be a member of the committee to move to the bottom of the hall and we can advise of the roles available, and the commitments required.
