The trustees present their report and Receipts and Payment account for the year ended 31 December 2023. 

## **Objectives and activities** 

Shankill Baptist Church (“the Church”) acknowledges the headship of Jesus Christ over his Church and exists to glorify the triune God by maintaining and promoting his worship both individually and corporately. 

The principal charitable object of the Church is the advancement of the Christian faith according to the teaching of scripture, understood in its historical and evangelical sense, the Doctrinal Statement and Baptist principles.  Its members devote themselves to the teaching of scripture, to fellowship, breaking of bread, prayer and evangelism. 

The activities carried out by the Church include: 

- holding regular services for public worship, prayer, Bible study, preaching and teaching for all age groups; 

- providing pastoral care to the members of the church through visitation and prayer; 

- organising meetings and events that promote our charitable purpose; 

- participating in the life of the local community; 

- supporting other Christian organisations and charities through volunteering, financial gifts and prayer. 

The trustees have paid due regard to guidance issued by the Charity Commission in deciding what activities the church should undertake 

## **Achievements and performance** 

The Church meets the public benefit requirement by providing benefit to its members and the general public by making known the Christian gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ through the advancement of the Christian faith. 

A list of activities which are held include the following: 

- Sunday services at 11 and & 7 weekly where all are welcomed.

- This includes an online stream on our You.tube channel. 

- Occasional Family & Friends events. 

- Baptismal services when required. 



- Missionary Meetings where other charities are given opportunity to present their work and where offerings are donated to their ministry. 

- Sunday School / Bible Class. 

- Youth Club. 

- Holiday Bible Clubs 

- Services for marriages and funerals. 

- Mens Meetings 

- Womens fellowship Meetings 

- Visitation of the sick / housebound 

## Financial Review 

The church recorded a net surplus for the year of £26,119 (2022: £14,761). 

Closing unrestricted reserves at 31 December 2023 were £111,520 (2022: £89,145). 

Closing restricted reserves at 31 December were 2023 were £166,365 (2022: £162,621). This represents funds held under the Manse and Building Funds. 

There are no funds held by the Church that are materially in deficit.

**Shankill Baptist Church Independent Examiner’s Report to the Charity Trustees of Shankill Baptist Church** 

I report on the accounts of the Trust for the year ended 31 December 2023, which are set out on pages 4 to 6. 

## **Respective responsibilities of charity trustees and examiner** 

As the charity’s trustees you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the Charities Act (Northern Ireland) 2008. 

It is my responsibility to: 

- examine the accounts under section 65 of the Charities Act 

- follow the procedures laid down in the general Directions given by the Commission under section 



● state whether particular matters have come to my attention. 

## **Basis of independent examiner’s report** 

I have examined your charity accounts as required under section 65 of the Charities Act and my examination was carried out in accordance with the general Directions given by the Charity Commission for Northern Ireland under section 65(9)(b) of the Charities Act. 

My examination included a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also included consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from you as charity trustees concerning any such matters. 

My role is to state whether any material matters have come to my attention giving me cause to believe: 

1. That accounting records were not kept in accordance with section 63 of the Charities Act 

2. That the accounts do not accord with those accounting records 

3. That the accounts do not comply with the accounting requirements of the Charities Act 

4. That there is further information needed for a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached. 

## **Independent examiner’s statement** 

I have completed my examination and have no concerns in respect of the matters (1) to (4) listed above and, in connection with following the Directions of the Charity Commission for Northern Ireland, I have found no matters that require drawing to your attention.
