## **Trustees’ Annual Report for the Year Ended 31 December 2022** 

The Trustees present the Annual Report, including the Receipts and Payments account and Statement of Assets and Liabilities, of Magherafelt Baptist Church for the year ended 31 December 2022. 

The charity is registered in Northern Ireland with the Charity Commission in Northern Ireland (CCNI) with charity number NIC108226. 

## **Structure, Governance and Management** 

## **Governing Document and Constitution of the Charity** 

The Church is an unincorporated entity operating under the Constitution for Magherafelt Baptist Church. 

## **Recruitment and Appointment** 

New trustees are appointed at the Annual Meeting of the Church every year and serve in the case of Deacons for 3 years and Elders for 5 years after which they may be proposed for re-appointment. 

## **Trustees** 

The Trustees who served Magherafelt Baptist Church during the year are detailed on page 1. 

Trustees meet on at least 3 occasions during the year. 

## **Payments to Trustees** 

None of the trustees have any beneficial interest in the Church or received payment for undertaking trustee duties. 

## **Management** 

Responsibility for the day to day running of the charity is delegated to the key management personnel as listed below: David Henry; Mark Palmer; Richard Macdonald; John Fulton; Jonathan Orr; Robert Jennings. 

## **Objectives and Activities** 

The Church acknowledges the headship of Jesus Christ over his Church and exists to glorify the triune God by maintaining and promoting his worship both individually and corporately. 

Its members devote themselves to the teachings of Scripture, to fellowship, breaking of bread, prayer and evangelism. They commit, with the help of God, to witness to the saving and sustaining power of the Lord Jesus Christ and to work for the extension of His Kingdom. 

The principal charitable objective of the church is the advancement of the Christian faith according to the teachings of Scripture, the Doctrinal Statement and Baptist principles. 

The trustees have paid due regard to guidance issued by the Charity Commission in deciding what activities the Church should undertake.

Achievements and erformance
The work ofthe Church has continued throughout 2022, seeing an increase in attendance at the various
meetings of the Church despite a period of Pastoral vacancy.
We have seen continuing development of our Young People and Youth Ministries wilh increased
attendance from young people representing various parts of the community.
In terms of community involvement, it has been a privilege to facilitate the work of Gold Surestart which
reaches out lo young families and Hope Magherafell a local charity which is part of the Trussell Trust
food network in the UK.
Financial review
The church is funded by voluntary gifts and donations, we make use of both the Gift Aid and Gift Aid
Small Donations Scheme.
The results for the period are set out in detail on pages 5 to 7. The charity returned nel receipts of
£73,84312021 £11,609} in the year.
At 31 December 2022, the charity had cash funds of £98,18812021 £24,345).
The Church uses Restricted and Unreslricled Funds in its accounting policies. Restricted Funds are
used for money donated to the Church for specific purposes such as Missions elc. Unrestricted Funds
from general offerings are used for all other purposes. Any shortfalls in the Restricted Funds are made
up by transfers from the Unreslricled Fund.

## **Independent Examiner’s Report to the Charity Trustees of Magherafelt Baptist Church** 

We report on the accounts of Magherafelt Baptist Church for the year ended 31 December 2022 which are set out on pages 5-7. 

## **Respective Responsibilities of Charity Trustees and Examiner** 

As the charity’s Trustees you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the Charities Act (Northern Ireland) 2008. 

It is our responsibility to: 

- examine the accounts under Section 65 of the Charities Act (Northern Ireland) 2008; 

- follow the procedures laid down in the general Directions given by the Commission under Section 65(9)(b) of the Charities Act (Northern Ireland) 2008; and 

- state whether particular matters have come to our attention. 

## **Basis of Independent Examiner’s Report** 

We have examined your charity accounts as required under Section 65 of the Charities Act and our examination was carried out in accordance with the general Directions given by the Charity Commission for Northern Ireland under Section 65(9)(b) of the Charities Act. 

Our examination included a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also included consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from you as charity trustees concerning any such matters. 

Our role is to state whether any material matters have come to our attention giving us cause to believe: 

1. That accounting records were not kept in accordance with Section 63 of the Charities Act. 

2. That the accounts do not accord with those accounting records. 

3. That the accounts do not comply with the accounting requirements of the Charities Act. 

4. That there is further information needed for a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached. 

## **Independent Examiner’s Statement** 

We have completed our examination and have no concerns in respect of the matters 1 to 4 listed above, and in connection with following the Directions of the Charity Commission for Northern Ireland, we have found no matters that require drawing to your attention.
