Objectives and aclivities
The aims of Brighl Places Counselling Services are as follows:
To provide or assist in providing an appropriate and free confidential counselling service to
young peop18 in need ag8d 15-25 in the Southern Health and Social Care Trust.
To promote pos¢tive health through the provision of an education outreach service to young
people aged 15-25 in Southem Health and Social Care Trust.
To link with other agencies in the area to promote positive health and well-being in Southern
Health and Sccial Care Trust.
Why it matters
We live in a rural area and il is often hard to access services locally. We believe everyone should have
th8 chanc8 to avail of support within our town. A lot of our service users do not drive and therefore find
il difficult to attend appointments OLrtside of Kilkeel. Our office is in the centre of town which provides
easy access for everyone to use.
Like everything within the NHS, mentsl heallh services have a long waiting list and when someone is
struggling with their mental health, early intervention is key. While we do often have a small waiting
list, we can offer support muGh quicker which is incredibly important for scmeone suffering from poor
mental health.

Achievements and performance
2024125 has been a busy year with referrals from various channels. This is positive, however the
need for funding limits yet again our potential. We have not marketed Bright Places in the way we
could if we had the funds in plac8 to offer s8ssions with litt18 wait time
We were able to offer approximately 530 sessions last year and again shows the need for a presence
in our loGality.
During the year we received funding from Belfast Cathedral via The Black Santa sit out. This initiative
was started in 1976 and is able to donate thousands of pounds each year to various local chariti8S.
We are very grateful for the donation of this money towards the ongoing work at Bright Places.
Ryan's Cookie Box and their customers again were incredibly generous and donat8d over £1000
towards our work. We are incredibly grateful for this generous amount of money which will go a long
way to offer support in our local communty.
Matthew Hazard and Lauren Graham both partnered with us this year and each ran Ihe Belfast
Marathon 2024. This is an incredible achievement, and we welcome this opportunity to thank them
both and their supporters who donated their money so generously. Together, they raised over £2,400
towards Ihe ongoing work at Bright Places.
Financial review
The results for the year are set out on page 7 & 8 of the accompanying financial statements.
Bright Places Counselling Services accounts for the year recorded a surplus of £914 (2024 - £1,295).
Going conc•rn
After making appropriate enquiries, the trust88s have a reasonable expectation that the company has
adequate reSoUr￿S to continue in operational existence for the foreseeable future. For this reason
they continue to adopt the going conc8rn basis in preparing the financial statements,
Reserves pollcy
Th8 Trust8es have established a policy lo designate funds for pariicular purposes, if decided
necessary by th8 Board, and to restrict funds which are to be used for specific purposes as laid down
by the donor.
Trustees have confirmed that the charity's assets are available and adequate lo fulfil the obligalions of
the charity.
At the balance sheet date the unrestricted reserves of the charity amounted lo £4,706 {2IJ24 - £3,792).
