Chair's Report

I would like to acknowledge and value the contribution of our external partners, especially our main funder Strathfoyle Village Centre Ltd. We are also very grateful for the funds awarded to us by Northern Ireland Housing Executive, Clothworkers Foundation, Radius Housing Association, Derry City and Strabane District Council, Western Health & Social Care Trust, Rural Area Partnership in Derry and Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs. These funds are vital to ensure we can continue to provide and extend our programme of work for our community.

I wish to commend the work of our staff, management committee, Directors, Trustees and volunteers for their support and commitment during the past year.

I would like to thank all the residents for their continued support and dedication to this community and its development.

Our summer festival was a success as always, our family fun day being the highlight of the week. This brought smiles to the faces of children throughout the area. We once again held a party for children with additional needs. It is vital that we make our festival inclusive to all. Our festival would not have been possible without the support from NIHE Cohesion Unit who once again awarded funding towards the costs of our events.

We continue to provide our meals on wheels service to the elderly and vulnerable within the community 5 days per week for a subsidised rate. Our Advice Northwest outreach service is available in our premises every Thursday from 14:00 – 16:00, by appointment only.

Local groups came together at Christmas to hold several events including Santas Grotto, a visit from Santa to turn on the Christmas Tree lights and our annual Older Peoples Dinner Dance at The Belfray Country Inn. These events would not have been possible without the help of Radius Housing Association who contributed towards the costs of the events. We also organised a Christmas Craft Fair in Strathfoyle Youth Centre. This was a great event with a variety of Christmas items on offer at great prices.

I am looking forward to another successful year as Chairperson of Strathfoyle Community Association Ltd and the further development of this community in the coming years.

Notes to the Financial Statements For the Year Ended 31st March 2025

Financial instruments

A financial asset or a financial liability is recognised only when the company becomes a party to the contractual provisions of the instrument.

Basic financial instruments are initially recognised at the transaction price, unless the arrangement constitutes a financing transaction, where it is recognised at the present value of the future payments discounted at a market rate of interest for a similar debt instrument.

Debt instruments are subsequently measured at amortised cost.

Where investments in non-convertible preference shares and non-puttable ordinary shares or preference shares are publicly traded or their fair value can otherwise be measured reliably, the investment is subsequently measured at fair value with changes in fair value recognised in profit or loss. All other such investments are subsequently measured at cost less impairment.

Other financial instruments, including derivatives, are initially recognised at fair value, unless payment for an asset is deferred beyond normal business terms or financed at a rate of interest that is not a market rate, in which case the asset is measured at the present value of the future payments discounted at a market rate of interest for a similar debt instrument.

Other financial instruments are subsequently measured at fair value, with any changes recognised in profit or loss, with the exception of hedging instruments in a designated hedging relationship.

Financial assets that are measured at cost or amortised cost are reviewed for objective evidence of impairment at the end of each reporting date. If there is objective evidence of impairment, an impairment loss is recognised in profit or loss immediately.

For all equity instruments regardless of significance, and other financial assets that are individually significant, these are assessed individually for impairment. Other financial assets or either assessed individually or grouped on the basis of similar credit risk characteristics.

Any reversals of impairment are recognised in profit or loss immediately, to the extent that the reversal does not result in a carrying amount of the financial asset that exceeds what the carrying amount would have been had the impairment not previously been recognised.
