Chair's Report

In our 50[th] year I would like to acknowledge and value the contribution of our external partners especially our main funder Strathfoyle Village Centre Ltd. We are also very grateful for the funds awarded to us by Northern Ireland Housing Executive, Comic Relief, Nationwide Building Society, Rural Area Partnership in Derry and Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs. These funds are vital to ensure we can continue to provide our invaluable service to the community.

I wish to commend the work of our staff, management committee, Directors, Trustees and volunteers for their support and commitment during the past year.

I would like to thank all the residents for their continued support and dedication to this community and its development.

I am pleased to report that the Strathfoyle Greenway officially opened to the public in June 2023. The opening of the Greenway is a welcome addition to our community. It will promote active travel and improve health and wellbeing for local residents.

Our summer festival was a great success. Our fun day was once again the most popular event and attended by approximately 300 people. This brought smiles to the faces of children throughout the area. Our festival would not have been possible without the support/donations from NIHE Cohesion Unit, Londonderry Port & Harbour, Firmus Energy, Burke Shipping and Evermore Energy.

We were able to celebrate our 50[th] year with a fun day in September 2022. This was only possible due to funding that we received from the Police Property Fund. A great day was had by all.

We continue to provide our meals on wheels service to the elderly and vulnerable within the community 5 days per week for a subsidised rate. Our Advice Northwest outreach service is available in our premises every Thursday from 14:00 – 16:00, by appointment only.

At Christmas we worked with other local groups to hold Santas Grotto in the Strathfoyle Youth Centre, this was a great event that brought some Christmas magic to the area. We also organised a Christmas Craft Fair and Santa turned on the lights of the Strathfoyle Christmas Tree. Our Older Peoples Christmas Dinner Dance in The Belfray Country Inn was a great night with plenty of dancing, great food and company.

I am looking forward to another successful year as chairperson of Strathfoyle Community Association Ltd and the further development of this community in the coming years.

Alex Duffy Chairperson

Notes to the Financial Statements For the Year Ended 31st March 2023

Financial instruments

A financial asset or a financial liability is recognised only when the company becomes a party to the contractual provisions of the instrument.

Basic financial instruments are initially recognised at the transaction price, unless the arrangement constitutes a financing transaction, where it is recognised at the present value of the future payments discounted at a market rate of interest for a similar debt instrument.

Debt instruments are subsequently measured at amortised cost.

Where investments in non-convertible preference shares and non-puttable ordinary shares or preference shares are publicly traded or their fair value can otherwise be measured reliably, the investment is subsequently measured at fair value with changes in fair value recognised in profit or loss. All other such investments are subsequently measured at cost less impairment.

Other financial instruments, including derivatives, are initially recognised at fair value, unless payment for an asset is deferred beyond normal business terms or financed at a rate of interest that is not a market rate, in which case the asset is measured at the present value of the future payments discounted at a market rate of interest for a similar debt instrument.

Other financial instruments are subsequently measured at fair value, with any changes recognised in profit or loss, with the exception of hedging instruments in a designated hedging relationship.

Financial assets that are measured at cost or amortised cost are reviewed for objective evidence of impairment at the end of each reporting date. If there is objective evidence of impairment, an impairment loss is recognised in profit or loss immediately.

For all equity instruments regardless of significance, and other financial assets that are individually significant, these are assessed individually for impairment. Other financial assets or either assessed individually or grouped on the basis of similar credit risk characteristics.

Any reversals of impairment are recognised in profit or loss immediately, to the extent that the reversal does not result in a carrying amount of the financial asset that exceeds what the carrying amount would have been had the impairment not previously been recognised.
