This is shown through cultural events that the associations have been hosting around communities in the UK, events that aim to bridge the gap between different kinds of cultures, providing people with an understanding and knowledge of other cultures around their local community.
Summary of Main Activities
● Regular meetings of the trustees and the rest of the international teams.
Covid and Funding
In the Annual General Meeting held on the 21st of July 2023, the members discussed the lack of funding for the Association and the financial burden that activities in the past have been on the trustees. For those reasons, it was decided that it was best to cancel all scheduled events.
The Association’s secretary suggested that it is best to close the Association as the schools in Guinea-Bissau have become sustainable through the implemented model of payment. The Guinea-Bissau branch is working towards local registration in Bissau, as such it would be best to cease all operations in the UK as it has been struggling to raise funds for one of its purposes - the advancement of culture around the United Kingdom. The Chairperson argued this point saying that the sustainability of our schools in Guinea-Bissau is directly related to our support here. This was put to a vote and the majority of members decided that it would be best to halt the closure as we look for alternative options.
However, we have been unable to proceed with the closure of the association due to issues relating to bank access and closure.
In conclusion, it was agreed that members will meet again in June 2026 to decide the next steps for the association branch in the UK.
