Objectlves and activltles
The primary objective of the Foyle Foodbank is tlie prev¢ntlon or rellef of food proverty in the Foyle
onstituency and surrounding areas in particular by providing emergen¢y food supplies to individual$ in need
andlor charities, or other organisations working to prevent or relleve povety.

The board of directors have agreed 6 broad objectives for the incoming period:
l. Governance. Consolidate staff and s¢NiC¢ £roMrth. Refine board operations and expand opportunities for
those Nvith lived experlence and specifi¢ skills to play an actlve role wlthln th¢ or8anisation.
2. Strategic Development. Foyle Foodbank will continue to work with Th¢ Trussell Trust and others to
deliver on our Strategic Busin￿ Plan and Pathfinder Prlority Alms document.
3. Partner Agencies. Acquisition and dlstributlon of food remain principal priorities for Foyle Foodbank, and
trusted partner agencie5 are the primary vehicle for food distributlon and accompllshins the aim of working to
¢nd povcrty in tlie Foyle constituency and surroundln8 areas. Bullding on those relationships with trusted
partners is key to the Foodbanks success.
4. Publi¢ Policy. As an additional approach to addre&sing the stated mission of 'responding to hunger and
food poverty in th¢ Foyle constituency and surrounding ar￿$ so that individuals ond families in crisis do not
experience hun8erf, the Foyle Foodbank will increase its efforts to Influence local and re8ional policy using
data gathered to lobby those in positions of power.
5. Outreach throughout the Foyle constituenw and surrounding areas. The Foyle Foodbank will focus on
increasing its pres¢nc¢ and publi¢ awar¢n¢ss throughout the community. Thls focus is intended to infomi th¢
wider community of our 5UPPOrt services and ruch those most in need or crisis. To enhance fund raising?
food-raisin& volunteer engagement, as well as ilie public's understanding of how the Foyle Foodbank works,
and how it works with partner agencles.
6. Financial Resources and Food Supply. Incr¢asing financial support throu£h fundraising and securlng grants
is priority to support tlie Foyle Foodbank's work. Given the continued increase in need for food and pressures
on food supply. the charity continues to expand food donors and identify streams of finan¢iaE ￿SOurceS
including grant aid.

In th¢ twelve months Foyle Foodbank distribut¢d to 3,258 households that in¢lud¢d 8,503 people, this
included 3,659 children and 4,844 adults. Partnerships continue to be built with strong¥ Gommunity-bas
organisations to alleviate hunser and povety among local people who ore in crisis Situations in the Foyle
constituency and surrounding are&
Under the grants provid¢d by Pathfinder project, Derry City and Strabane District Council and other
resources the Foodbank lias grown and expanded its staff team and services they provide to those who need of
Foodbank support.
Trussell Trust provided fvnding for a Financial Inclusion ProJe¢t to help people
m&ximise their income and support with finances. We joined the Feeding Britain Network which has allowed
us explore affordable food models. Outreach infonnation events was delivered across the City.
The Foyle Foodbank is located at purpose deslgned premises in the Apex Living Centre and hLs created a
warm, welcoming environment for clients with a shop, large food warehouse. chilled food store. cafe area,
and offices. The centre also a demonstration kitchen that is being used for healthy and loiv-cost cookery
classes benefittlng people usinB the Foodbank.

In 2023, our team of around SO volunt¢¢rs h¢lped across all aspects of our organi5ation, added to by the
support of a number of business organisations. Our volunteers, commitment and hard work enable the
Foodbank to operate at M￿lMuM capaclty to support all those in need. We are hugely indebted to them.

The charity has relied principally upon donations in the year. Foyle Foodbank's reputation and partnerships
secured donations from acr05S the Foyle are& In the past year local businesses and individuals have been
extremely generous in their monetary donations to the Foyle Foodbank.

Th¢ Charity has generated a surplus of unr¢stricted funds of £67,450 for the year ended 31 December 2023
(2022 - £94,104) and on restrlcted funds a deficit of £l.119 for the y¢ar ¢nded 31 December 2023 (2022

£4,281). The reserves at the end of the year ar¢ £466.527 to the 31 December 2023 (2022
£400,196). InGom¢ and ¢xpenditure is expected to vary from year to year depending on funding received and
activities organised as a consequenc¢.
The directors previously agreed that a designated fund should be set up to ¢nsure that the equivalent of 3
ycars. operating costs are covered in the event of the withdrawal or a gap in funding. The dir¢ctors review
this annually and are satisfied that the balance of £120,000 is adequate at 31 December 2023.

The directors have examined the charity's requirements for reserves in li8ht of the main risks to the
organisation. Foyle Foodbank wlll ¢ontinue to bulld sufficient reserves that will allow for continued
operation for three years. Expenditure for th¢ Foodbank is modest and will remaln so. Any requlrement for
major expendlture is brought before the directors for approval.

Development Manager is responsible for the overall running S￿d management of all activities, staff 8nd

person to be a director. either to fill a casual vacanGy or &$ an addition to the existing directors. Any director
so appointed ￿ry¢S only until th¢ next Annual Oeneral Meetlng at whi¢h directors are to b¢ elected and are
