The Purposes of the charity
Purpose 1: Improved relationships between home and school The benefit which flows from this purpose includes funding for additional resources for the school and links built with the local community.
Purpose 2: Advancing the education of pupils in the school The benefit which flows from this purpose includes increased educational progress and attainment of pupils in the school and links built with the local community.
What our charity achieved since last report to carry out its purposes:
Purpose 1 was demonstrated through having an active parent teacher and friends association that worked in partnership with the school and engaged parental support. This was achieved through regular Newsletters and inclusion of a section within the monthly school newsletter.
Purpose 2 was demonstrated through pupils having access to resources, events, activities and links with the local community which are not available through direct school funding. This was achieved through arranging a drama project that was to showcase on a production that was due to be open to friends, family and the wider community. Our gardening project also ensured grandparents to come into the school to show pupils how to grow their own vegetables in the raised beds. Funding secured for a cycle stand has meant that children can cycle to school and store their bikes in a dry safe location. Funding secured for sports equipment has meant that the pupils have access to toys/play equipment that would not otherwise have been provided.
How our activities have provided a benefit to our beneficiaries:
These projects had the following main benefits:
-
Provided an opportunity for both grandparents and pupils to learn new skills; Gave the young person and the older adult a sense of purpose; Helped to alleviate fears young people may have of the elderly and visa versa; Invigorated and energized older adults; Reduced the feeling of isolation for the grandparents; Helped to fill a void for some of the pupils that do not have grandparents available to them; and Helped keep family stories and history alive.
-
Encouraged children to be physically active through cycling and outdoor play;
-
Afforded children that would not have access to drama classes access to that Allowed the school to update it’s school library with books of interest to the children and suitable for the children.
How we have mitigated any harm flowing from our purposes:
We have not undertaken any activity that would cause harm. We have taken part in externally organised programmes that would have taken responsibility for risk. Our internally organised activities have involved significant planning reducing the potential of risk or harm.
How we have ensured that any private benefit has been incidental to the public
benefit:
We are not aware of any private benefit.
Financial Review:
Total receipts for the year have decreased from £3,160 to £596 this year. This is due to less grant applications being successful in the year ended 31/05/22. Payments have decreased from £2,548 to £138 this year. This is due to the cost of charitable activities reducing in the year.
There is a total equity at the end of the year of £367 compared to £824 last year.
Statement of compliance with the duty to have regard
In setting our objectives and planning our activities for the year the trustees have given careful consideration to the Charity Commission for Northern Ireland’s guidance on public benefit to ensure that the activities have helped to achieved the charity’s purposes and provide a benefit to the beneficiaries.
